📢 On October 25, 2024, a groundbreaking step was made for women’s representation: the #CEDAW Committee launched General Recommendation No. 40 (GR40) on the Equal and Inclusive Representation of Women in Decision-Making Systems! Women Enabled International (WEI), in partnership with the Inclusive Generation Equality Collective (IGEC), played a key role in shaping this recommendation, pushing for a disability-inclusive perspective. Our submission highlighted the urgent need to ensure that women with disabilities are not only present in decision-making spaces but also empowered to lead and make their voices heard. 🌍✨ In the words of Gertrude Oforiwa Fefoame, Chair of the CRPD Committee and IGEC member, “We are still fighting to enter decision-making spaces on an equal basis with others, a fight that pulls our attention away from the substantive contributions we can and should make to those spaces.” The GR40 is an extremely valuable tool which women, girls and gender diverse people with disabilities can use to demand for equal, meaningful, and accessible representation. 💪🌍 #GR40 #WomenInLeadership #InclusiveDecisionMaking https://lnkd.in/ehdnNRHz

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's commit to amplifying the voices of ALL women, especially those whose stories are often unheard (which is why I've included my daughter here...those with disabilities are often unseen, unheard, and not included at the table). Together, we can create a more inclusive society for everyone. #InspireInclusion #IWD2024 #disabilityinclusion

On this International Women's Day, let's celebrate the progress we've made while recognizing the persistent challenges many women face in the society. Despite strides towards gender equality, women still bear the primary responsibility for caregiving. The burden of ensuring the wellbeing of the family and children disproportionately falls on mothers, placing immense pressure on those balancing careers with motherhood. Moreover, the structural barriers within workplaces make it difficult for working mothers to compete on an equal footing with their other counterparts. Unlike others with flexible schedules, working mothers often find themselves balancing work commitments with the demands of childcare. Let's use this International Women's Day to honor the remarkable women who navigate these challenges with grace and determination, while also advocating for greater support systems and policies that recognize and accommodate the diverse roles women play in society. Happy International Women's Day #IWD2024 #inspireinclusion

Last Chance! The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth is developing the next National Strategy for Women and Girls. This new strategy will expand on the progress made by the last strategy and help advance the rights of women and girls. The new strategy will build on the previous strategy objectives in areas such as leadership, social and economic issues, visibility and active participation, healthcare, and gender mainstreaming. To inform this process, the Department wants to gather the views of members of the public to make sure a broad range of opinions and experiences are included when considering what are the key issues, and how best to deal with the key challenges facing women and girls today. The survey can be accessed here: https://brnw.ch/21wNFBw The deadline for the survey is Monday October 14th. 30% Club Ireland National Women's Council (NWC) Women's Collective Ireland

During Gender Equality Week, we celebrate the undeniable truth: gender equality benefits everyone. The misconception that women’s rights come at the expense of men couldn’t be further from reality. In fact, in more gender-equal societies, men benefit too. The evidence is clear: policies promoting equality not only improve the quality of life for women, but for men, children, and entire communities. Take paid maternity leave, for example. It helps women balance family and career, reducing unobtainable childcare costs for all families. Equality at home, like sharing care and domestic responsibilities, leads to happier, more fulfilling relationships. In the workforce, greater equality boosts productivity, job satisfaction, and well-being across the board. At the YWCA Niagara Region, we are proud to be a change agent, working towards a society where women and families thrive. Let’s continue to push for a future where everyone rises together.

Celebrating International Women's Day! This year's theme, ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress,’ invites us all to champion gender equity and equality. In line with this, we're excited to highlight our gender-neutral parental leave policy, a step towards inclusivity and breaking barriers. We're proud to introduce a policy granting all new parents 26 weeks of paid leave. By abolishing primary and secondary carer terminology, this initiative supports women in returning to work and challenges traditional caregiving roles, acknowledging that parenting is a journey shared equally. This initiative is just the beginning. We're committed to investing in women and accelerating progress not just today, but every day. Through policies like these, and other initiatives detailed below and on our website, we aim to create a more equitable workplace and society for everyone. 🌍 Globally, 75% of unpaid work is done by women, equivalent to three out of every four people you know dedicating their time to unpaid care work. Additionally, 42% of women worldwide are unable to work because they are responsible for care-related activities, compared to just 6% of men. (UN Women) 🌱 The Care Industry can be defined as paid and unpaid labor that provides non-medical care in all its forms, including cooking, washing, cleaning, or taking care of family members, including children, the elderly, and those who are ill or have disabilities. 🚺 These shocking statistics highlight the critical role of the Care Industry in promoting #genderinclusion and empowering #women. By recognizing and valuing the unpaid care work predominantly undertaken by women, we can strive to pave the way for greater gender equality.
