📢 The European Network Against Racism Aisbl (ENAR) recently analysed diversity trends in the European Parliament. 📊 🔍 One key finding: individuals with disabilities remain severely underrepresented. During the current mandate, only seven Members for the European Parliament identified as having a disability. Since more than a quarter of the EU's population has some sort of disability, the disparity is glaring. ⚖️ 👩🦽👩🦯 Women and girls with disabilities are particularly affected by marginalisation and barriers, especially when it comes to full participation in elections and meaningful inclusion in decision-making. 🗳️📋 📜 Discover the European Disability Forum's full manifesto on the rights of women and girls with disabilities and join the call for better participation and representation: https://lnkd.in/eNS-q4zA #Empowerment #Equality24seven

Even as the conversation of #femicide takes centre stage in #Kenya, our national policy on Gender Based Violence remains under review meaning government... and stakeholders have no valid document to rely upon to steer collaborative or individual efforts to combat #GBV which has also morphed into Technology Facilitated GBV (#TFGBV) since the last strategy. The next 16 days are focused on activism against gender-based violence: 1. EDUCATE YOURSELF ON WHAT GBV is and is not! 2. ACCEPT while GBV affects both men and women, statistics show that majority of the victims are women... they also report more frequently.... that's why the next point is important! 3. AWAKEN to the culture of silence that keeps both men and women quiet after the said violence. Encourage reporting to relevant authorities or professionals. GBV affects health, security, and livelihoods of people. 4. REALISE that it is your responsibility to speak up or to act, in whichever capacity. 5. STRICTLY FOLLOW the necessary protocols or referral chains post the GBV incident such as reporting or seeking professional help. THIS COULD MEAN SAVING A LIFE OR SEEKING JUSTICE. #safarizamteteziwahaki #TowardsBeijing+30:UNiTEtoEndViolenceAgainstWomenandGirls

Our Co-Founders, Osasumwen Edobor and Tosin Akinbode Osho, led a research project on the elimination of discrimination against women for Hope Inspire Foundation for Women and Youth with Disabilities (HIFWYD) Ejiro Okotie, contributing to the #CEDAW Committee’s advocacy for the equal representation of women with disabilities in decision-making. This work was featured on the United Nations Human Rights official website. The current gap in leadership roles for women with disabilities remains significant, with systemic barriers limiting their participation in politics, business, and public life. We are calling for actionable steps to break these barriers and promote inclusivity. The report calls for: - Integration of disability inclusion in global frameworks like CEDAW GR40. - Outreach and capacity building to empower women with disabilities through education and leadership training. - Policy and legal reforms to ensure women with disabilities are included in all decision-making spaces. We believe a more inclusive world is possible, one where women with disabilities are not only empowered to lead, shape policies, and make decisions, but are also free from violence and discrimination. Kudos to our Co-Founders, let's do more for an inclusive society. For more details, read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/etZQfUFh #THRMedia #CEDAW #EmpowerWomen

#HRC57 🔹 Compelling findings of the report on #indigenous persons with disabilities presented by the Special Rapporteur José Francisco Calí Tzay 🔹 Approaches focussed on individual impairments, often in disregard of community-oriented, holistic perspectives inherent in Indigenous knowledge systems 🔹 Historical and ongoing racial discrimination hindering their participation in society on an equal basis 🔹 Intersectional discrimination based on gender, race and disability 🔹 Significant cultural and linguistic barriers to the exercise of their fundamental rights 🔹Lack of disaggregated data and culturally appropriate disability support services 🙏 We extend our deepest gratitude for the work carried out by the Special Rapporteur and wish him plenty of success in his future endeavours. ⚠ Women and girls with disabilities represent 25.9% of the population of women in #Europe and around 60% of the overall population of 100 million persons with disabilities in Europe. They must be empowered to advocate for their rights effectively and address their societal needs. 👉 Last week, the European Disability Forum launched its manifesto for the #EUelections2024. The document focuses on 4 main areas to ensure the active participation of women and girls with disabilities and build an inclusive future: 📌 Political participation; 📌 Combating #VAWG; 📌 Leadership; 📌 Visibility and empowerment. #UseYourVote #FeministEurope #WomenWithDisabilities
Our movement’s motto, “Nothing without us”, cannot become a reality without the full and effective participation and inclusion of women and girls with disabilities. Today, we launch the Third manifesto on the rights of women and girls with disabilities - “Empowerment and Leadership”! The Manifesto calls for decision-makers to empower women and girls with disabilities and ensure their leadership over their lives and issues that affect them. It focus on 4 specific areas: 1️⃣ Political participation 2️⃣ Combatting violence against women 3️⃣ Leadership - women and girls with disabilities should lead their lives as independent persons. They should be able to assume leadership roles in their own lives but also in society. 4️⃣ Visibility and empowerment in all areas of life that leads to equal opportunities and inclusion. https://lnkd.in/eNS-q4zA

🌍 On this United Nations Day, we express deep gratitude for the collaborative work with global human rights and disability rights actors that enables Women Enabled International (WEI) to drive change. Our advocacy through the UN—working closely with the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)—has allowed us to elevate the voices of women, girls, and other gender minorities with disabilities on the world stage. Our engagement with the UN includes impactful advocacy efforts such as: ⭐ Collaborative Advocacy with CEDAW & CRPD: Together with global allies, WEI has influenced critical UN recommendations addressing violence and discrimination faced by women with disabilities, including forced sterilization, coerced contraception, and institutionalization. ⭐ Ensuring Legal Capacity and Access to Justice: With the support of our partners, we continue to push for legal frameworks that protect the rights of women with disabilities, ensuring their access to justice, equal standing in courts, and essential support services. ⭐ International Engagement: We are grateful to work alongside disability and human rights actors to ensure women and other gender minorities with disabilities have a seat at the table in global discussions like the Generation Equality Forum and that policies reflect their unique lived experiences. ✊ Today, we celebrate the power of global advocacy and the meaningful change it drives! We are joining Disabled Peoples' Organisations and calling for the Scottish Government to prioritise the needs of disabled people in Scotland. Read about the three key asks here https://buff.ly/3UhvJyS and join us to support. Disabled women face significant marginalisation in the labour market, and their experiences are often overlooked in policymaking and employer practice. We need inclusive policies that consider gender and disability together. #DisabledPeopleDemandJustice Glasgow Disability Alliance Disability Equality Scotland Inclusion Scotland
