📜 After a very productive review process that allowed us to properly align our intents with the related research community, our paper "Computational Trust in Robotics: Preliminary Investigations and Evidence", presented in the last edition of the MultiTTrust workshop at Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence Conference, is publicly available. 🔗 Link: https://lnkd.in/d63DrY_6 🤝 In this paper, we discuss about the rising domain of Computational Trust, that aims at modelling trust dynamics between humans and robots, in both ways. I’m delighted to share that we have started new AI research collaborations with two US universities.   Our Tech Hub Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America (MBRDNA) has earmarked a six-month funding initiative aimed at advancing education and research in AI and its potential to elevate the in-car experience as well as autonomous driving.   Stanford University School of Engineering and the University of California San Diego’s (UC San Diego) Contextual Robotics Institute are leaders in this field.   At Stanford Engineering, 15 students led by lecturer Jay Borenstein will formulate project ideas to explore the full spectrum of possibilities with AI in relation to our MBUX Virtual Assistant, which we announced this year at CES. This ranges from optimising the productivity of daily commutes to parking and refining a personalised in-car voice assistant powered by fine-tuned large language models.   Meanwhile, MBRDNA is expanding the scope of research with UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering. Led by Professor Henrik Christensen, the research team’s Autonomous Vehicle Laboratory (AVL) focuses on perception and fusion for automated driving. The objective of the project is to build on prior work from Christensen’s lab and integrate it with a real-time 4D Neural Radiance Fields (NERFs) model to build a model segmented into semantically meaningful regions.   Supporting research done by educational institutions in key areas of innovation has long been a cornerstone of Mercedes-Benz R&D worldwide. Such collaborations often lead to joint publications and recruitment opportunities in key fields as well as important discoveries and advancements.   I am very keen to see what emerges from these latest projects.   #MercedesBenz #R&D #Innovation

Exciting Progress on My task in the final project of Robotics Studio 2 at UTS! 🚀 🤖 About the Project: As a Master’s student in Robotics at the University of Technology Sydney, I am currently engaged in a bottle shorting project with the help of the Omron TM-12 Robot. inside that my role is to develop an AI-driven system for identifying bottle brands, which could revolutionize inventory management and retail operations. This project leverages cutting-edge machine learning and image processing technologies. 🔍 Technical Breakdown: *Objective: Develop a reliable and efficient system for the automatic identification of bottle brands, focusing on three popular types: Great Northern, Pale Ale, and Heineken. *Model Training: Utilizing YOLOv5, an advanced deep learning model known for its speed and accuracy. We enhanced the model with per-trained weights (yolov5m.pt) and trained it for 300 epochs to ensure robust performance. *Image Acquisition: Implemented an RGBD camera, specifically the Intel RealSense D435, to capture detailed image data. This setup is integrated with ROS Noetic to handle our data processing pipeline effectively. *Achievements: We've achieved a high accuracy rate, significantly reducing false positives and increasing detection speed. The model consistently recognizes bottle brands under various environmental conditions. 🎯 Results & Impact: The project has successfully demonstrated how AI can be applied in practical, industry-related scenarios, potentially aiding in automating tasks that are currently manual and time-consuming. 🔗 Looking Forward: As we refine the system and expand its capabilities, I am eager to explore further applications and industry collaborations. EngineAI Robotics' SE01 is a robot that can interact with #students in real time. It can guide #lessons, respond to commands, and demonstrate principles of #STEM concepts through hands-on activities. SE01 is designed to engage students in problem-solving exercises, group projects, and even personalised #learning experiences, helping to foster critical #thinking, #creativity, and #teamwork. Due to launch in 2025, with around 1000 in production.

Ericka Johnson, Professor, and Katherine Harrison, Associate Professor, at Linköpings universitet, hosted an interactive workshop about critical robotics on 16 February. "Maps make some things visible at the same time as they obfuscate others. They amplify and silence relations differently. They are always POV. And they have political goals.
