We need to remove the 'taboo' from loneliness. I recently listened to a podcast where a neuroscience expert said that people feel less happy because work from home culture has removed an element of spontaneity from our lives. 🍲 "Wanna grab itsu for lunch?" 🍻 "Wanna go for a drink?" 🏃♀️ "Wanna come to my run club after work?" That's why I started hosting co-working days. I'm no stranger to feeling disconnected, I moved to London at 23 not knowing a soul in the city, living alone and often working alone means I have to make a real conscious effort to stay connected to my community. The feedback from the second Selfhood co-working day was mainly "I didn't get loooooads of work, done but I've met the loveliest people and I'm so glad I left the house" 😂 At our events we: ✨ Share the challenges of working independently ✨ Speak about what projects we're working on ✨ Make connections ✨ Get recommendations ✨ Chat about what we've been up to outside of work ✨ Someone even collected a load of market research for a project this time But ultimately, without sounding live laugh love about it - we actually had a laugh, ate cake, and made some new pals 🍰 It was so good to see some returning faces from the first event and some new ones too. I had so much fun that I didn't actually get any content (sign of a good time in 2024) so here's the cake we ate instead 😂 Community is plastered everywhere nowadays but it's important that we make actually make a conscious effort to build a community, not just a one off brand event or a coffee meet and greet as a tickbox exercise. Get people connecting continuously. That's what these events are about, building relationships over time. If you want to come along to the next one in November you can sign up in the comments :)

Yesterday was one of those days that makes me so grateful for the autonomy and flexibility of being a #solopreneur. (Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of hard days, whether that's back-to-back meetings, wading through piles of paperwork to be processed, or having an existential crisis! But yesterday was a good one.) I took the morning off (without having to ask anyone permission :)) to go on a bike ride with my husband for his birthday - we rode over to the W&OD trail and from there to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. I love exploring our community and all it has to offer. Which is part of the reason why I've volunteered for the last few years co-directing the #HealthyTogetherFairfax event (which will be THIS Sunday, please join us, details in the comments) - and after I got back from our bike ride, I had a meeting to do a quick pre-recorded interview for a Sunday morning local radio show that's going to feature our event! After that, I was on a 2+ hour call with an amazing group of people as we try to shape a school mental health focused collaborative - it's complicated and messy (think two-steps-forward-one-step-back), but I'm also so excited about how this can get us moving in the right direction together. Then, my daughters and their friends came home after school and we spent an hour at the neighborhood playground. And then we had a very cranky dinner time because we were all exhausted 😂 but it was totally worth it. I wish more of our workplaces - and also more of us - embraced the idea that not all days need to look the same or have the same amount of work in them. There is beauty + energy + creativity to be found in varied schedules, varied intensity, and varied work/life balance, whether that's within the same day, across days of the week, or across weeks/months of the year. What are some workplace policies - or just personal policies you've implemented on your own - that help allow for this kind of variety? Sound off in the comments, I'd love for us to share ideas and learn from what others are doing!

If you're not familiar with the four agreements - I want to bring it to your attention as a must read book before the year ends. I also want to talk about the agreements of "don't make assumptions" and "don't take things personally" through the lens of being a founder. We host monthly networking sessions for the RetreatVi community for people who work across the retreat and wellness space. We have 74 people on the invite who have all individually given their emails and expressed desire to be included! The last 3 times we have had variance in attendance as we have also been experimenting with time of day and week (we are a global community so people are on this list from California to Portugal so time zones can be challenging.) Transparently, I got in my head this week wondering "are people annoyed getting these invites every month?" because some people are just not showing up or RSVPing. So I sent a survey to try to find the best time and day for this call to happen every month. I also included an "opt out" option. All of the results aren't in yet candidly, so I'm sure this will look a bit different by the end of the week, but just a huge reminder to not assume and to not take things personally. Life is busy and what you are doing is valuable! Always seek clarity.

New Connections, Same Mission!🌍 It's incredible how paths cross in unexpected ways! Recently, I welcomed a new client who is friends with someone I had the pleasure of helping before. It’s moments like these that remind me of the power of community and connection. 💫 🌟 Here are three things that make these connections so special: 1. Shared Success Stories. Seeing friends share their positive experiences and results is the best testimonial one could ask for. 2. Motivation and Accountability. Friends working towards their health goals together can provide extra support and encouragement. 3. Expanding the Network. Each new client introduces me to a wider community, enriching the network of wellness enthusiasts. 👉If you know someone on a wellness journey, share your experiences. You never know who might benefit from the same support and guidance. Ready to start your own journey to optimal health? Let’s connect and make it happen together! 💪💚 Book a call with me today: https://lnkd.in/gjx3gJZv Stay healthy and connected! 😊
