Two years ago, Roe v. Wade was overturned in the United States. This is a chilling anniversary to mark. One we didn’t think we would see a few years ago. As we have said repeatedly: abortions happen whether they are legal or not. When folks seek abortion care outside of a regulated medical facility, the possibilities of infection, permanent damage, or even death are many. We cannot ever stop fighting to ensure abortion access stays legal. We need to continue our work to ensure folks can access abortion care no matter where they live. WHC provides up to 600 more abortion procedures than we are funded for every year. That amounts to $300,000 in overall costs with these additional procedures. We have been able to deliver this because of generous donations from our community, but we need long-term solutions to ensure we are adequately funded and resourced to continue delivering our crucial care. You can help too. -Stay in the loop – sign up for our newsletter and follow accounts who talk about reproductive justice -Write your elected officials to state your support of abortion care -Donate – every dollar makes a difference. No donation is too big or too small. If you are able, you can give today: https://lnkd.in/gwXvgwsS

Please consider donating to help women, girls and people who can become pregnant in #SouthCarolina. A medication #abortion in #SouthCarolina is an average of around $600. For the rare instance that #abortioncare seekers can get a "medically necessary" abortion at MUSC through one of the "exceptions" written into the state's 6-week ban, that cost is $3,100. Most people now have to travel out of state, which increases their financial burden, the financial burden, and puts a strain on clinics in non-ban states like #Virginia. This means the Palmetto State Abortion Fund are now helping callers find a clinic that can see them the quickest, as well as helping them figure out and pay for travel and lodging. Palmetto State Abortion Fund estimate that $750 is needed for each caller, and they can't always provide that. How Does Palmetto State Abortion Fund Use Your Donations? The entire team is ran by #volunteers, and their overhead is minimal (website, email software) so donations go directly to funding abortion care. They work with the clinics directly to ensure that patients are taken care of. They are funded by small-dollar donations, and receive no grant funding for direct services work.

David and Alex, a normal Iowa couple, faced an unimaginable decision when their unborn baby was diagnosed with congenital condition where the right side of the heart doesn’t develop completely. The doctors presented them with options: a series of costly surgeries and invasive procedures, with uncertain odds, starting right after birth. They bravely chose what they felt was best for their family with the support of their physicians. Iowans experience these heart-wrenching situations every day. These are normal people who simply wanted a healthy child. The option for abortion care was essential for David and Alex, allowing them to make the best decision for their family’s well-being. Happy birthday to Ariella Messing, the Executive Director of the Online Abortion Resource Squad (OARS)! For more than five years, Ari has been running the team that manages the abortion forum on Reddit: r/abortion. Last year, more than 800,000 people went to r/abortion. Throughout 2023, people submitted more than 16,000 posts and more than 100,000 comments. The OARS team moderated and/or responded to every single one of them. Ari has spent every day over the past five years supporting abortion seekers and changing the abortion internet for the better. In honor of her birthday, I'm asking everyone who cares about abortion access to chip in to sustain OARS's work if they're able to. OARS runs almost entirely on donations. As many folks in repro know, the post-Dobbs rage donations have all but dried up. If you'd buy Ari a birthday drink if you were out together, please consider donating the equivalent. You can also set up monthly donations to make a bigger impact. Abortion access is getting worse in the U.S. on a near-daily basis. This is one thing you can do to not only celebrate one of the most dedicated abortion advocates we have, but also to have a direct impact on OARS's ability to provide accurate, up-to-date, and personalized information for the hundreds of abortion seekers who go to r/abortion every day for support. Now more than ever, we must stand in solidarity with those fighting for bodily autonomy and reproductive justice. In their recent Inside Philanthropy op-ed, Oriaku Njoku, Executive Director of the National Network of Abortion Funds, calls upon the philanthropic community to move beyond mere charity and embrace a commitment to sustained support. Given the relentless attacks on abortion access, supporting abortion funds with multi-year, unrestricted grants is not just a choice—it's a necessity. Let's come together, acknowledge the urgency of the situation, and work towards a future where reproductive rights are not just a dream but a reality for all. Our Abortion Access Scorecard, originally released in 2022, in the wake of Roe v Wade highlighted the disparities in accessibility through the law. We had another wave of law reform and now our policy settings are quite sound. While abortion care in Australia is legal – everyday access for many people in many parts of Australia remains unaffordable and obstructed by discrimination, stigma and the intrusion of religious and other beliefs into health care delivery. The policy to fund abortion and contraception services by federal and state governments is generally positive – but the reality on the ground is big service gaps and significant out-of-pocket costs for women and people. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭-𝐨𝐟-𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, even with Medicare access. The situation is even worse for people who come to us who have no government funding support, no Medicare and no insurance. They make up 10-15% of our patients and they usually have to pay the full cost for surgical or medical abortion care. To support the most disadvantaged people, we started our philanthropic 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 in 2017, inviting donations from the public. Donations can fully or partially cover the cost of abortion and contraception for women and people in Australia who are experiencing financial hardship and other barriers. This includes women and people who: ♦️ have been 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 from public hospitals, Catholic hospitals, private hospitals and GPs ♦️ experience 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, which is on the rise in this cost of living crisis ♦️ 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥, 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 ♦️ are 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 or/and ♦️ experience 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬. 🚨 Breaking News: The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that the 6-week abortion ban will take effect. The case will return to the lower court for review under a new constitutional standard to determine its validity. While this decision technically prolongs the judicial debate, the ban is effective unless the lower court later determines it fails to meet the new standard. We must stay informed and engaged as we continue to advocate for healthcare freedom. The law becoming effective underscores the importance of continued advocacy for reproductive rights and healthcare freedom. We must remain vigilant and committed to protecting patient-centered care and ensuring that individuals retain their autonomy in making informed healthcare decisions. Please join us! Your support is crucial in our fight to defend the healthcare liberties of all Iowans. You may have heard about a new, near-total abortion ban in Florida and Arizona. The legal details are complicated, but remember today: nothing has changed just yet. In both states, abortion is currently legal up to about 15 weeks of pregnancy. Florida’s ban will take effect on May 1. Arizona’s ban will likely take effect in several weeks, but it still depends on legal proceedings. Navigating these bans may feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Abortion is safe, normal and available. You deserve the tools to make your own decisions about your future. AbortionFinder’s state-by-state guide and INeedAnA.com can help you find care that meets your needs. Hope is a strategy. Accessible information is the tactic!

Abortion was the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. between 2022 and 2023. Yesterday, I read the National Review's report on these figures. According to Planned Parenthood's annual report, 392,715 abortions were provided in one year. The National Review pointed out that if the CDC considered death by abortion in their "Leading Causes of Death Data," Planned Parenthood provided abortions would take fourth place. That figure doesn't include abortions provided by other abortuaries besides Planned Parenthood. And now I know that figure doesn't even include chemical abortions from mail-order abortion pills. Would abortion take first place as the leading cause of death in America? #defundplannedparenthood
Breaking news from Planned Parenthood today, their annual report dropped and the numbers are sobering. In our initial analysis of the report, a few things stick out: 1) PP killed a record breaking 392,715 babies in the last year, although the number is likely triple that, as they don't track numbers from the mail-order abortion pill regimen (which now account for more than 63% of all abortions). 2) PP received just shy of $700 Million in tax payer funding alone in the last year. 3) Nearly $20 Million of the non-profit's money goes just to lining the pockets of their affiliate CEOs. The message to the American people is clear: The answer to a bad economy isn’t swift action from our leaders, it’s murdering future taxpayers and cashing checks for blood money.
