🎙️ 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬! Anne-Sophie Pype is featured on BXFM’s podcast, sharing findings from a recent survey on reconciling parenthood and work, initiated by #DegroofPetercamFoundation, that received 180,000 responses across Wallonia, Brussels and Flanders. Key highlights from the discussion include: • 40% 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 compared to 12% of men, primarily to care for their children. • The survey revealed 660 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐬, focusing on three main areas: 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬. • One striking point was 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 in the French Community, where only 4 out of 10 children have a spot in childcare. This issue forces many parents, especially women, to make tough choices, impacting their careers and finances. 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 include organizing workshops in November to co-construct three concrete projects. These projects will be activated with other stakeholders in 2025. I listened to episode 81 of the Period in the Dark (Period ka Kara) podcast, where the host interviewed a visually impaired woman. It was an eye-opening session that highlighted unique challenges, social stigma and experiences faced by an educated and economically empowered woman with visual impairments. As mensuration is a natural phenomenon without which our natural doesn’t exist, and often labeled as “impure” which restricts women and girls from accessing to opportunities and fully participate in the society. Unless we dismantle the harmful mindset regarding mensuration, we will not be able to change the behavior that perpetuate discrimination. To prevent such discrimination I agree with the speaker who suggested engaging with the school management team on mensuration issues and prioritizing proper pad disposal dustbins, regular water facilities and organize debates and discussions on mensuration, involving adolescent boys, girls and their parent. This will help ensure that they no longer feel shame or hesitation when discussing the topic and support all women and girls regardless of disability, class and caste that hinder their ability to manage mensuration with dignity. #periodkakura If interested please find the link
