Many Intended Parents considering egg donation wonder, ""Will my child resemble me?"" 🤔 The decision to use donor eggs for IVF brings forth numerous questions, from genetic inheritance to physical resemblance. Let's delve into some insights: 🔍 Determining Factors: Choosing a suitable egg Donor is pivotal. Donors undergo thorough evaluations, influencing the genetic traits of potential offspring. Environmental influences during fetal development also can shape a child's phenotype. 👀 Appearance of a Child: While using a Donor egg means the child won't carry your genetic material, they may still inherit some of your traits or personality. Understanding this can offer comfort amidst uncertainties. 🔍 Searching for the Right Donor: When selecting a donor, consider factors like medical history, physical attributes, and shared interests. But remember, the love you offer matters most. 💖 The Role of Love: Ultimately, the love between parent and child transcends genetics. Despite the physical resemblance, the strength of a bond lies in the nurturing presence of care, the warmth of affection, and the foundation of mutual respect. Check out blog for more info! 🔍

1. 'Can genotype change?' This is a question I have encountered many times on the lips of individuals whose genotype are confirmed AS after believing all their lives they are AA. Sadly, genotype doesn't change. It's the same for life!!! 2. 'I visited my pastor and he prayed and my genotype changed from SS to AA.' Again, that is FALSE. Either it was not done properly in the first instance or it was never done at all. 3. 'Since we have 25% chance of having SS, we can marry and have kids, it's not even 100%.' Again, 25% is a huge number to gamble with. Imagine being told that condoms are 75% effective against pregnancy and STIs, that leaves 25% chance of getting it. In another words, you have 1 in 4 chances of getting pregnant or having an STI. I won't gamble it. 4. 'I know a couple that were both AS and their 4 children are not SS.' Again, I also know a couple whose three children were all SS. Why risk it, when you can prevent it? 5. 'So now we are both AS and married, does that mean we can't use these new methods to have healthy kids?' Are you psychologically ready to abort fetuses should the test state they are SS? Do you know how emotionally draining the whole process is? Do you have the funds to even keep trying? What if infertility and other complications creep in? Are you aware that IVF has a percentage failure rate? 6. ' Why are people so sentimental when advising AS individuals not to marry?' No one really is sentimental towards you. It is the consequences we are sentimental about. Watching your fellow children engage in activities that will only leave you exhausted or in hospital. Spending half of your life in hospital settings writhing in pain and agony. Constant fear of dying at any time. Low mental and psychological health for the child. It is these things we are sentimental about. It is not about you! ******************************************************** Today is sickle cell awareness day, think of all the innocent children who have to pay for mistakes committed by two adults who could have done better. Know your genotype by getting tested at an accredited facility. THEN ACT ACCORDINGLY! #Sicklecell

THE TRAUMA OF MISATTRIBUTED PARENTAGE/NPE With commercial DNA kits, we see an uptick in the number of people who experience the trauma of misattributed parentage, which affects 2-12% of the population. NPE means non-paternity event: when someone presumed to be an individual's biological father is not in fact the biological father. It may result from sperm donation, undisclosed adoption, intercourse with multiple partners in close succession, an affair, non-consensual sex, or medical mistakes with IVF or artificial insemination. The result is confusion and overwhelm about one's identity. It can result in Identity disruption trauma, which can involve these stages: ShockChaos and/or confusionRecovery and growth (new identity acceptance)Reclamation and reintegration of self (new normal)Advocacy Learn about the trauma of misattributed parentage/NPE: https://lnkd.in/eh87yAYd Sign up for announcements of future monthly Trauma Training Tuesdays: https://lnkd.in/en3V-xbq WorcesterACTs.org

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 & 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 - Research findings indicate that the incidence of MS is approximately twice as high in women compared to men. The majority of MS diagnoses occur within the age range of 20 to 40 years. This period holds significant importance for women as it coincides with considerations surrounding pregnancy. Within our platform, we offer a selection of (accredited) e-learning modules on this topic: - Risks, pregnancy and vaccination in MS (Accredited by EACCME) by Bassem Yamout and Maura Pugliatti. This e-learning includes engaging case-based examples given by experts in the field of MS. - Family planning. ParadigMS Foundation organised, in collaboration with the Egyptian MS Society, a two-day symposium in Egypt. Here you can review the full keynote on Family Planning by Prof. Celia Oreja-Guevara. - Pregnancy and Lactation in Patients with MS (Accredited by EACCME) by Bassem Yamout and Maura Pugliatti.
