If a man and a woman both started working on January 1, 2023, it would have taken the average woman until today, March 12, 2024, to catch up to the man’s yearly earnings. Today we recognize the ongoing fight for gender pay equality and the importance of closing the gender pay gap by celebrating Equal Pay Day. Equal Pay Day originated in the U.S. in 1996 as a public awareness event that highlighted the gap between men and women’s wages. Every year it falls on the date that symbolizes how far into the new year women must work to earn the same amount that men earned in the previous year. At Payton Employment Law, PC, we’re dedicated to protecting workers’ rights, which include fair compensation. To help close the ongoing gender pay gap, we must hold companies and policymakers accountable for ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work. #EqualPayDay #PayEquity #GenderEquality #WomensRights

The struggle for equal pay can be traced back to the early 20th century, with women advocating for their rights and fighting against discriminatory pay gaps. Despite many years of advocacy and advancements, gender pay disparities still persist globally. As the world marks International Equal Pay Day this week, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) calls for urgent action to close the persistent gender pay gap. Women continue to earn only 77% of men’s wages on average, and even less in certain industries. This year, we take pause to reflect on the journey toward equal pay and recognize the importance of continued progress. As women continue to demand equitable compensation and demonstrate their valuable contributions, the journey towards fair and equal pay for all appears closer than ever. This day highlights the need for policy makers, businesses, and trade union movements to address historical disadvantages and achieve true gender pay equity. #equality #equalitypayday #equalitypayday2024 #gendergappay #gendergap #September #somogroup

As we focus on all women's Equal Pay Day in 2024, an interesting piece of history on the day was that it did not start with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, its origins actually trace back further than that. In fact, Equal Pay Day was first observed in 1996, marking a significant moment in the ongoing fight for pay equity. It serves as a reminder of the persistent gender wage gap and the need for continued advocacy and action to address this issue. As we commemorate Equal Pay Day this year, let's reflect on the progress made and recommit ourselves to promoting fairness and equality in the workplace. https://lnkd.in/ezshDtaa

Today marks a crucial moment in our pursuit of workplace equality: Equal Pay Day - It’s a stark reminder of the persistent gender pay gap that continues to affect women across all industries & backgrounds. “The gender pay gap is typically referred to in monetary terms, measuring how much women earn for every dollar a man earns. But that gap is also indirectly a marker of time, since women on average earn less and therefore have to work longer just to break even with men. How much longer? Enter Equal Pay Day — an approximate measure of just how many months into the new year a woman has to work for her earnings to catch up with what a man made in the prior year. This year, Equal Pay Day falls on [March 12]. That means the average full-time working woman has to work about two and a half months more than the average man just to bring in what he earned last year.” (To read the full article, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gG8u6-Uw ) As we recognize this day, let’s ask ourselves: How can we collectively work towards closing this gap and ensuring fair compensation for all? Happy Labor Day for Women? Globally, women earn approximately 20 percent less than men, and, at the current rate, it will take 257 years to achieve equal pay for equal work - if we keep going at the present rate. Closing this gap requires a concerted effort to enhance pay transparency, combat occupational segregation, improve work-life balance, better social protection, and fair minimum wages. https://lnkd.in/gcudn8M3

👛 Today it is Equal Pay Day! This morning, while reading the newspaper (Financieel Dagblad), I came across a striking article: from today until the end of the year, women in the Netherlands are symbolically working "for free." The gender pay gap of 12% per hour worked is a persistent reminder of the inequality that still exists. One story particularly stood out - a young woman who discovered her male colleague, with the same role and experience, earned significantly more. When she raised the issue, she was met with excuses ranging from "he negotiated better" to comments about her appearance. Stories like this highlight why Equal Pay Day remains so important. Together, we can create more awareness and build a more inclusive and fair future. At Qdrop - Impact Analytics, we know that change starts with transparency. By providing tools to measure and analyze diversity, pay equity, and other impact metrics, we help organizations uncover gaps and take meaningful action. Every drop counts💧 #EqualPayDay #ImpactAnalytics #EveryDropCounts #SDG5
