International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, observed annually on November 29, honors women who advocate for human rights and social justice globally. These courageous individuals challenge discrimination, inequality, and violence, often working in hostile environments. Women human rights defenders not only fight for gender equality but also support marginalized communities, standing against oppressive systems. Despite facing threats, harassment, and violence, they continue to champion freedoms, dignity, and justice. This day recognizes their invaluable contributions and underscores the need for their protection and support. This year’s theme for the 16 Days of Activism highlights the urgency of ending gender-based violence as we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025. The Beijing Declaration, adopted in 1995, remains a landmark framework for achieving gender equality and eliminating violence against women and girls. While progress has been made, millions still face abuse, discrimination, and harm every day. “Towards Beijing +30” calls for renewed commitment, collective action, and accountability from governments, organizations, and individuals. It’s a reminder to: - Strengthen laws and policies to protect survivors and punish offenders. - Invest in prevention and support systems. - Challenge harmful norms and support survivors in healing. As we mark this year’s campaign, let’s unite to honor the progress made, address the gaps, and create a world free from violence, fear, and inequality. The time for action is now. _ #AYGF #AfricaYouthGrowthFoundation #16DaysOfActivism #UNiTE #EndGBV #GenderBasedViolence

Preventing violence against women and girls is possible, but only if we act together, now. #EndViolence WHO and HRP, the UN Special Programme on Human Reproduction, play a key role in bringing attention to and responding to violence against women as a public health, gender equality and human rights issue, including in humanitarian settings, by building evidence, developing guidelines, encouraging political will and accountability, and improving related health services. #16DaysOfActivism #OrangeTheWorld https://lnkd.in/erNZXiZv

How to focus on human rights rather than 'women's issues' #HowToTalkWithMen 💡 Changing harmful norms starts with meaningful conversations. Every day, MenEngage Alliance members like Tony Mwebia from Men End FGM Foundation (MEF) are facilitating gender-transformative change among men and boys and on issues like ending Female Genital Mutilation (#FGM) 📣 Tony shares how it is vital to help men to see issues like FGM as human rights violations, and not 'women's issues' that have nothing to do with men. 🙌🏾 Let’s call men in as allies for gender justice. Together, we can inspire more to take part in the journey toward a just and equitable future for all—women, girls, gender-nonconforming individuals, and men themselves. 📣 Join the conversation, and let’s create change together. #HowToTalkWithMen #MenEndFGM #StopFGM #GenderJustice #TransformingMasculinities #Feminism

Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign dedicated to eliminating violence against women and girls. This year’s theme, #NoExcuse: Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls, highlights the urgent need to take collective action towards achieving gender equality and protecting the rights of women and girls everywhere. As we move Towards Beijing+30, we reflect on the commitments made during the historic Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, ensuring that the progress of the past three decades continues to empower women and challenge the systemic barriers they face. Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations, and it is our collective responsibility to advocate for survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and foster safer communities. Beyond the #16Days, we will continue to amplify the call to #EndGBV. Let’s use this time to raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and demand accountability from policymakers. Together, we can create a world free from violence and discrimination. Your voice matters. Let’s stand united. #16Days #NoExcuse #EndGBV #BeijingPlus30
