Speaking as someone who hadn’t even imagined that marketing was a career choice (Scotland, 70’s childhood, ‘it’s not work if you’re not sweating…’), let alone waste, I can vouch for how brilliant it is! It’s an evolving industry, which is quite rightly championing better, more sustainable management of waste. At Biffa we go one step further and are actively working to reduce waste and enable a more circular economy. It’s not just bins and trucks, collecting waste. It’s about surplus redistribution, reuse, recycling, and recovery of materials. That means roles for sustainability strategists, biodiversity enthusiasts, material experts, caring chemists, customer champions, visionary engineers, and much more. The Women In Waste group is a forum to consider how we can encourage more women into the industry, by addressing barriers and creating a supportive environment.
