😱 What is the point of any of this? Or, perhaps even more succinctly - why join Wonderland Community Project? We're not professional content creators, influencers, or land restoration experts - why us? why now? 🦦 When we bought the land, we had only big dreams and the remnants of #Berryland - an olympic sized swimming pool (with trees growing out of it), piles of rubble (including the entire front hood of a 1950s car), and a dancefloor (with a collapsed roof). It took us some time to establish the critical infrastructure - a toilet, yes, but also a well-appointed kids' area, rope swings, storage, well-tended trails and access to ponds for kayaking. Creating a Patreon https://lnkd.in/gvzyc-Mg would have been asking our community to pay for gas and woodchips - to fund us in our crazy dream. 🌳 No matter what happens on #ElectionDay, the work of #climateadaptation and #climatemitigation is only beginning. We don't see this as work that should be carried out in a vacuum - we see it as both / and: creating resources for our extended community that also address #climatechange. You don't have to take our word for it - the science on how soil organic carbon increases water-holding capacity and the small water cycle underpins global initiatives like #4p1000; #agroforestry can produce more calories per acre than conventional ag; and regenerative changes affect local heat and weather in real time, helping to offset broader climate issues. 🚶♀️➡️ Along the way, we are learning many lessons about circularity and conviviality- and we are learning to develop a bias to action that nonetheless encompasses variant capacities. Delivering real change requires questioning our own beliefs of individuality and urgency, and working together. There are many questions that we are only just figuring out, and tools we will build and share that don't exist today. Similarly, where there are choices, we are developing an opinion. We're not saying it's the only opinion, or even the best opinion - but we'd like you to join us as we go.

🌍🌱 What’s Mom’s Garden Project? 🌱🌍 Introduced in 2022, Mom's Garden Project is WeLoveU's environmental program with a goal to plant 1 million trees by 2026. It was inspired by the nostalgic memories of children tending the garden with their moms or parental figures. Mom’s Garden Project encourages individuals around the world to take small actions to protect Earth’s greenery — because every little bit counts in preserving our planet. 🌸🌳 🌍 1 Million Tree Planting 🌳 With global temperatures rising by 1.07°C since pre-industrial times, the urgent need to address climate change has never been clearer. Without swift action, we could face an irreversible climate crisis. 🌡️ That’s why WeLoveU is on a mission to plant 1 million trees by 2026 — helping to combat global warming, support climate refugees, and promote the environmental well-being of all humanity. Planting seeds and saplings counts toward the goal, too. 🌿💚 Each tree planted is a step toward a healthier, more sustainable planet for future generations. Let’s grow a greener world together! 🌍💧 #MomsGarden #WeLoveU #1MillionTrees #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalStewardship #ProtectOurPlanet #SustainableFuture #GreenEarth #ActNow #GlobalCommunity https://lnkd.in/eX5nRWmH

The summer has just started, and heat waves continue to break records nationwide and impact our communities. While many people may not have heard about "tree equity," it is undisputable that trees make our lives better and healthier. Trees reduce heat-related illnesses and deaths and slow the effects of climate change. Unfortunately, in cities, there are fewer trees in front-line communities where most residents are people of color or with lower incomes. In our latest guest blog, HECHO's HCLC member Orlando Cazarez shares valuable insights on the importance of tree equity! #Treeequity #heatwave #extremeheat #Urbanheatislands Arizona Sustainability Alliance

We need to talk about a Landscape Restoration Industry in New York Today marks the start of the #ClimateWeekNYC. We are excited to participate in inspiring lectures, meetings, innovative initiatives and panels sessions from dedicated organisations in the field nature based solutions and climate adaptation, such as the Rainforest Alliance, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, The Nature Conservancy Maliasili, Salesforce, 1t.org (World Economic Forum), Conservation International The Rockefeller Foundation Bezos Earth Fund Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People IUCN, Climate-KIC WWF UNDP LGT Venture Philanthropy IKEA Foundation Landscape Finance Lab and many many others. My plea here is that we need a collaborative approach and stronger long-term cooperation between local organisations, NGOs, governments, corporations and the financial world to ensure that this trillion-dollar promise of a landscape restoration industry comes into being, as previously published in Forbes. The signs are there, despite the wars, climate change disasters and political polarisation. https://lnkd.in/ebBN2ahG UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration #UNCCD UN Biodiversity Secretariat of the ELD Initiative Global EverGreening Alliance CIFOR-ICRAF

"To really move the dial, investment in forest landscape restoration can no longer be categorised as Corporate Social Responsibility, or a sunk cost. Instead, the value that forest landscapes provide must be added to the sourcing strategies and accounting of every company dependent on forest landscapes. Only then will the trees be appreciated for just how much they can make money grow." This read is worth 10 minutes of your time! Forest landscape investments are possible and needed to achieve a climate, nature and business positive future. https://lnkd.in/eiPBFmwv #forests #nycw #sustainablefinance

Forest Encroachment, is a term more often used by professionals as reference for the illegal exploitation of forest resources, indeed,it is characterized by destructive activities. Collaborations/ partnerships have been forged with forest adjacent communities to enact policies and enhance governance, yet forest destruction remains a perennial problem in many parts of the country. Are our efforts still not sufficient! Are our approaches not suitable? A dilemma, more so when you know you are doing your best, right? However ,in my opinion, the success of forest restoration initiatives lies in the decisiveness of Professionals, the ability to use an economist's mentality and suggest species that present an opportunity for economic development and sustenance (with absolute consideration of ecological adaptations and species invasion potential-for exotics)-as much destruction is from the low income groups who entirely depend on the forest for their livelihood. Enhancing adoption of conservation strategies needs a well thought approach that will enable people appreciate the long term benefits as opposed to the easily accessible one time benefits. Trees that offer both wood and non wood products(more emphasis) would be more convincing to bring people on-board other than just advocating for trees that offer ecosystem benefits only(best suited for degraded natural forests). To reduce pressure on natural forest ecosystems and elevate acceptance of restoration initiatives, we have a responsibility(as conservationists) to help the community perceive sustainability and foresee continuous income(from the select species) they're likely to get from endorsing such projects. Pongamia pinnata is my tree of interest.

Inspired and energized after giving a presentation at Nanaimo Climate Action Hub's Climate Solutions Cafe this past Saturday! We reviewed some of the current best practices around home and building efficiency surrounding lighting, insulation, efficient technologies a la heat pumps and heat-pump-integrated hot water, then dove into applying urban permaculture design to further bolster these technologies. TL;DR, by designing landscapes to capture, slow, and sink water into the soil (Rather than washing it into the storm system), then planting a strategic combination of deciduous and evergreen native species, we can insulate our homes from the more extreme summer/winter temperatures, buffer against wind chill and dust, support local wildlife, and build local food security. This kind of design amplifies its effects when done to scale, or when multiple properties in a neighbourhood do the work, since what we're doing is building watershed health and biodiversity in a way that also directly reduces home grocery and energy bills. Win-win! https://lnkd.in/gNbkHvFp

🌿 Rewilding Flanders: A Vision for Small-Scale Transformation 🌿 Inspired by initiatives like the Lower Chew Forest project in Somerset, highlighted in The Guardian, we at WildGridEU are working to bring a similar spirit of transformation to Flanders. Our vision is to build a dedicated team of experts who will spearhead micro-rewilding projects across the country. From abandoned farm grounds to mono-cultured parks, we aim to breathe new life into overlooked spaces, creating thriving ecosystems that support biodiversity and benefit communities. 🌳🐝🦉 These projects will focus on: Restoring native habitats in urban and rural areas. Engaging communities to actively participate in sustainable transformation. Addressing climate challenges through carbon sequestration and natural flood mitigation. Every small patch of rewilded land is a step toward a greener, healthier Flanders. If you share our passion for rewilding, join us in building a network of change-makers who turn small spaces into big opportunities for nature. Together, we can make a lasting impact. 🌍 #MicroRewilding #WildGridEU #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #FlandersGreenFuture #RewildFlanders
