EDTA-induced platelet clumping is a laboratory artifact where platelets aggregate in blood samples anticoagulated with EDTA. It occurs due to exposure of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa epitopes, leading to antibody-mediated agglutination. This pseudothrombocytopenia can cause falsely low platelet counts. Using alternative anticoagulants like citrate or heparin resolves the issue for accurate measurement.
