Addressing the rising costs of higher education begins with transparency. I appreciate the work the College Cost Transparency Initiative (CCT) is doing to set standards for colleges and universities to communicate financial aid offers and college costs in ways that provide clarity for students and their families. If you are not familiar with the organization, check them out at https://lnkd.in/e_DxxW9Q Before we can have a productive discussion about increases to need-based aid, tuition increase rates, discount rates, etc.....we have to start with transparency. Shouldn't every campus want to be on a list like this?

Nearly 70% of students eliminate a college from their research list based on cost—and that number goes up when deciding if they should apply. Higher education needs a bold approach to pricing transparency. For most institutions, high-price, high-discount isn’t about shaping the class or personalized financial aid awards when the average discount rate is 56%. This article highlights the urgency of timing in addressing financial challenges faced by public colleges and universities. With continued enrollment decreases, the question arises: Do these public institutions have enough time to course-correct on their own, or will state legislatures choose to intervene?
