It’s budget planning time in municipal government and with that typically comes multiple requests for additional staff. How is Council expected to evaluate which positions are needed the most? For example, do you need another firefighter or an Operations Manager more? Which department needs administrative assistance and how does that line up with another HR resource? A Workforce Plan will help guide these budget decisions because it provides a roadmap of what positions will be needed and when. Then Council and Administration will have something to refer to when they are making budget decisions around new positions. This template is a good guideline on getting started with a workforce plan.
