The workplace we create today will not only impact our current workforce and those we serve. It was also have an impact on the choices our future workforce make. A healthy, happy workforce of people who love what they do is one of the best ways we can inspire the future generation. This is why what we as Strategic Workforce Planners and People and Culture professionals is so important. #strategicworkforceplanning #workplaceculture #peopleandculture #workforce #wellbeing
In case you are wondering why I am posting this video on LinkedIn, please let me explain. For context, this is the first time my older three kids met their 2 hour old baby brother. The 8- and 6-year-old are paying attention to the baby they have been waiting for, for months. But the 3-year-old is captivated by the midwife taking my pulse. Just watch how intently she is monitoring this midwife's every move. Why am I sharing this? Because that 3 year old is now 21 and in a few months will complete her Bachelor of Nursing and has plans to continue study to become a midwife. Was it this moment and this beautiful midwife who inspired her to choose this career? Or was it the many appointments we had with our regular midwife (Deb) in the months and weeks before? Or was she destined to be a midwife from birth? In my opinion, it was a combination of all of the above. Plus, the nudge she received from a high school teacher who informed her she could study nursing as part of her final years of schooling. Plus a countless number of other mini monumental moments (as I like to call them) that added up to provide her with the motivation, knowledge, resources and experiences to follow this path? This is why strategic workforce planning matters. Because it enables us to understand those moments and manipulate them for mutual benefit. To create environments where people can do what they love doing. So those people create the best possible experiences for those they serve. And those who are watching want to grow up to be just like them ❤️ . Nurses, doctors, teachers, engineers (enter any profession you choose here) are not made in days, weeks or months. The workforce we need now and into the future need to be nurtured throughout their whole lives so they can perform to their potential and experience fulfilment from making a difference that matters. I wrote an article a few years back about this https://shorturl.at/AfnrN What were the mini monumental moments that influenced your career pathway? What are the mini monumental moments we can all create to nurture our workforce pipeline? Anne Marie, Brian, Tamara, Dr Hassan, Farah, Eliza, Amelia, Richard, Alicia, Chris, Nick, Adam, Jen, Sarah, Ralf, Dr Rebecca, Dr Cath, Helen, Andrea and many others in my network, this is why what you do matters so much. And Mark McCrindle and Ashley Fell, this is why your insights into generation alpha are so critical. #strategicworkforceplanning #healthcareworkforce #futureworkforce #midwifery #nursing
