Irons in the fire – After just 3 weeks since ISG went into administration it is great to hear that some former colleagues have already successfully secured new roles or have irons in the fire. Particularly heart-warming has been the efforts to support apprentices and graduate trainees. The offers of support and opportunity from across industry have been impressive and are much appreciated. Many impacted will feel the repercussions of the fall out for some time, so World Mental Health Day was a timely reminder yesterday of the part that everyone can play in supporting each other through the challenges of employment change and uncertainty. Whilst I have the experience of being through this before, this time it is the same, but different. Different in that: · Redundancy for the majority was immediate · Headcounts are already under pressure as the whole market struggles to make a margin · We are at the end of a financial year for many, rather than at the beginning · Employers now search for talent in much more of a pull than push fashion · War chests are consigned to history post pandemic, post Brexit, post Hackett, post Ukraine invasion and post some of the biggest changes to UK building regulation in a generation So, it is heartening to hear on our ‘team’ call this morning how the innovative use of technology, networks and friendships are adapting to support each other in new ways. As one of my former colleagues said this morning, there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’, but I rather fancy that we need to be prepared for a different sort of light and a different sort of construction industry on the other side.

Without this spirit --- I wouldn't have stayed afloat: when my fees wasn't paid and had to drive home; when I had to hold my stomach tight during quiet time; when I didn't have enough money for that upcoming school-trip; or when I walked into that exam ill-prepared thinking about peer-pressure. The UWC Spirit taught my how to measure, analyze, and evaluate all occurrences under the sun and beyond pertaining to my existence using Business; Economics, Politics; and Engineering [BE PE]. Using the UWC Spirit -- I've founded the Kent Rock Recycling Shed to introduce my skills and expertise in the market: The Kent Rock Recycling Shed [using a smartphone, school-bag, and a garage] is engaged in the business of collecting, storing, and supplying the market with barcoded items from waste material --- in response to Eswatini Environment Authority's Waste Management Innovation Challenge; Stellenbosch University's Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Strategy; and the Royal Science and Technology Park's Sustainable Development Goals Innovative Enterprise Challenge. Closing a chapter means opening a new adventure! I proudly completed my Bachelor's degree in International Business at Hochschule Furtwangen. Reflecting on the past four years, I am filled with gratitude for the insightful and exciting journey I’ve had, gaining valuable insights into the global economy and the business world. One of the highlights was earning a double degree with EGC Martinique, where I immersed myself in a new culture and gained hands-on experience at AMPI Martinique. I’m also grateful for the practical experiences I gained: - At Worldline, where I honed my skills in business development for software solutions in the financial services industry. - During my Bachelor's thesis with msg for banking ag, which deepened my understanding of the banking and payments sector through insightful expert interviews. - At valantic (former wdp), working on complex consulting projects in M&A and value creation, enhancing my analytical and strategic capabilities. From these experiences, three key learnings stand out: 1. Communication is key: Effective communication fosters collaboration and drives success in any professional setting. 2. Every problem has a solution: Curiosity and persistence always lead to solutions, no matter how challenging the problem. 3. Always believe in yourself: Confidence in your abilities is crucial for overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals. The best is yet to come, and I am eager to apply these insights and experiences to my next challenges. Stay tuned for what’s next! Special thanks to Frank Kramer, Raphaël Gilles, Violeta CALVO BERNET, Jennifer VITELLIUS, Marie Crémier, Patrick Gauweiler, Felix Hackland for supporting me during this journey! #InternationalBusiness #CareerJourney #NewBeginnings #BusinessDevelopment #Consulting #GlobalPerspective

When I was growing up, we were continuously told to keep both our wins and failures to ourselves because “batho bata go lowa.” You get accepted into university, get a job you are reminded to keep it to yourself, you fail or drop out of school you are sent to the farm or the village so that you do not become the laughingstock of the community. I fully understand where this notion comes from, but I also often wonder if we were taught from an early age to openly speak about our wins and losses if we would not have developed better strategies at coping and celebrating both, without hanging on to what people will say. I am a firm believer in sharing both the good and the bad, with the hope that our story helps someone else. Working on yourself, building a business or a career is hard, and as you go through it you will encounter many good moments and equally bad moments, you will also be criticized but I’ve learnt that both the wins and the losses are some of the key ingredients that shape a winner. For the last 6 years we at The Bulb World have taken so many L’s, and we are grateful for each and everyone of them as they have given us strength to continue in the journey to fulfilling our goal of building Africa’s biggest lighting brand. Whilst the journey is hard, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the following: ✅we are listed in over five thousand (5000) stores across Africa. ✅we have created both permanent and temporary employment. ✅we have been lighting up households, streets and communities since inception. ✅We have completed over 10 CSR projects since inception. ✅And we have increased our product range to twenty-seven (27) since inception. We could never have achieved any of this if we did not have challenges, support, and the will to keep going. We do not share our stories to brag or to get pity, but to give you the courage to dream, the courage to start, the courage to face challenges, the courage to keep moving and build a legacy. If we do not share our stories both the good and the bad, then our light is not bright enough, we would have failed! Please go out there, face your challenges with a smile, ignore the noise, pray, and work hard for your wins 🙏🏾. Happy New Week!
