Why Animal Rights Should Be a Non-Partisan Issue Animals have always been an integral part of our lives, providing companionship, labor, and sustenance. However, in recent years, the conversation surrounding animal rights has taken center stage. The increasing public awareness of the ethical treatment of animals has led to a critical question: Why should animal rights be a partisan issue? In a world riddled with political divisions, finding common ground on this matter has the potential to foster unity on an issue that transcends political boundaries. Makeover Monday W9 Animal Rights: Best and Worst Countries for Animal Rights A topic very near & dear to me. I believe animals are sentient, feeling, individual creatures. They deserve our respect, empathy, compassion, and laws to protect them. A Ground-breaking Victory in the Crusade Against Horse Export We've achieved a landmark victory in the struggle for animal rights with the closure of the Bouvry Exports Prime Feedlot in Alberta, Canada. This facility, a central figure in the horse export industry from the United States to Canada, has been permanently shut down after years of scrutiny and advocacy. This accomplishment is the fruit of a decade's worth of unwavering dedication by Tracks Investigations, along with our partners in the sphere of animal welfare. Through our collective effort, we've brought to light the severe mistreatment and dire conditions endured by horses at what was Canada’s largest horse slaughterhouse. Our collaborative efforts, alongside Animals Angels USA and the Animal Welfare Foundation, have unveiled a harrowing reality: overcrowded conditions, sick and injured horses without access to shelter, and the heart-wrenching presence of deceased animals. These revelations led to a pivotal legal action by the Canadian Organization Animal Justice last year, demanding a thorough examination of Bouvry Exports for breaches of animal welfare laws—an effort that proved critical in the shutdown of this facility. The closing of the Bouvry Exports Prime Feedlot represents a significant turning point in the North American horse export industry. It's a testament to what can be achieved with tenacious advocacy, investigative journalism, and the collective will to champion the cause of justice, even in the face of daunting challenges. #AnimalRights #VictoryForHorses #EndHorseExport #AnimalAdvocacy #InvestigativeJournalism #AnimalWelfare

I recently changed my bio to include *animal rights activist*. I hesitated, as that has been given such negative connotations by the zoo industry. Yes, industry. The #AssociationofZoos&Aquarium s is a $17.3 billion industry annually--and that only covers about 270 zoos in the US out of a total 4,000 zoos. Now think of all the animals that die in zoos--thousands? Tens of thousands? No one knows. The one agency charged with enforcing the Animal Welfare Act, the U.S.D.A. Animal Plant Health Inspection Service Animal Care division, doesn't keep track. You may think--would they die anyway? Don't zoos serve a purpose? In my opinion, no, and no. Pet-ition Calls for Stronger Animal Rights Laws in Canada! Our federal animal rights laws are overdue for a change! MP Julie Dabrusin is stepping up with Canada’s first “pet-ition,” a proposal to recognize animals as sentient beings—a step forward in advocating for their welfare. I absolutely believe that animals are sentient beings and deserve this recognition and protection. This legislation is a significant moment for animal rights and sets the stage for future protections. What are your thoughts on this new direction for Canadian animal laws? #AnimalRights #Canada #Petition #AnimalWelfare https://lnkd.in/dW9G3vz2

ANIMALS DAY (oct-4th)🦁🐼🐨🦓🦊 What is World Animal Day? World Animal Day, sometimes referred to as world Animal Welfare Day or World Animal Protection Day is an annual event on the 4th of October, celebrating animal rights and welfare across the globe. It’s an important day and has been marked since 1925, with a growing international community striving to end the needless suffering of all animals. By increasing awareness and improving education worldwide, those involved are helping to create a space recognising wild and farmed animals as sentient beings with thoughts, feelings, and individual personalities. Their animal welfare practices, and treatment must reflect this. With its international reach, many people around the world celebrate World Animal Day in different ways. Businesses and individuals can give a voice to animals by celebrating World Animal Day in various ways, whether that’s through a fundraising event for charities supporting protection efforts, a goods donation drive or education sessions, there are so many options for everyone to get involved. How did World Animal Day start? World Animal Day was first celebrated on 24th March 1925 in Germany. It was started by Heinrich Zimmermann, a cynologist, who organised the first celebration at the Sports Palace in Berlin, which was reportedly attended by over 5,000 people. #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers

"🐮💚😊 Cows are friends, not food!" Project Animal Freedom released this video on May 3rd. It has since amassed over 2.3 million views. The combined watch time? 325,477 minutes! If just one person watched our video on repeat, they would have to watch nonstop for 226 days to rack up that much watch time. That’s why we make these little videos. They can capture a great deal of attention, inspire reflection on the human-animal relationship, and advance the conversation around animal rights. This video, in particular, encourages people to reflect on whether cows and dogs are morally different enough to warrant the vastly different treatment they generally receive. In so doing, it advances an anti-speciesist worldview wherein all animals deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of species. Please keep an eye out for future miniatures like this one. We are proud to produce these little videos that often have an outsized impact.
