At #COP29 through the Global Plan of Action on Education for Biodiversity and at #UNGA through the Declaration on Future Generations, the world made clear their commitment to creating a more sustainable and equitable world for present and future generations. The Declaration on Future Generations recognizes children and youth as agents of change and emphasizes the need to include them in decision-making. In a Global Student Environment Survey, hundreds of young people called for a transformation in education that prioritizes hands-on experiences that connect them to nature. We currently face an array of complex, interconnected challenges that need long-term, youth-centered solutions. We are committed to supporting young people in building the skills and knowledge to respond to these urgent challenges and creating a safer and more prosperous future for all: https://brnw.ch/21wOOBd

Education becomes a critical pathway to support cultural change in these moments of planetary complexity. Nature-based Education (NbE) is not only a Nature-based Solution (NbS) but is a fundamental driver and long-term shifter towards planetary health. Bringing nature to the core of education is essential in bridging the human-nature disconnect, increasing our understanding of living systems, thinking systemically, learning to come into right relation (with ourself-others-nature), and activating our regenerative capacities. At IUCN CEC we have be working hard to create a framework to move forward in this process that includes: - Nature-based Education (NbE) for Planetary a health https://lnkd.in/ep7PEdyt - Greening Schoolgrounds and Outdoor Learning https://lnkd.in/ejrsEmSe - Falling back in love with nature #NatureforAll https://lnkd.in/e_765ufH - Policy recommendations and decision maker tools - Youth Empowerment https://lnkd.in/enQHcwKz - Communication for Conservation Accelerator Tools As leader of the Nature-based Education for Planetary Health initiative I am everyday more convinced that to overcome our shortsightedness and move humanity forward to heal, restore, reconcile with and regenerate our beautiful planet, we need to deeply connect with nature in our ways of thinking, of feeling, of acting, of being. Education structures must step up their game and play its role in critical thinking, radical innovation and cultural shift. #WeAreNature #Education #ClimateAction #biodiversityconservation #NaturalEducation #NatureBasedEducation #LoveEarth #COP28 Additional resources: Education for Regeneration - A Nature-Based Approach - Part 1 https://lnkd.in/e4WYJRFt Education for Regeneration—Why EE Is Natural for Personal Growth and Understanding: Part 2 https://lnkd.in/enG-tBWt Learning for Regeneration: The Stepping Stones — Part 3 https://lnkd.in/eGjf_TYW IUCN CEC OpEPA - Organizacion para la Educacion y Proteccion Ambiental Children & Nature Network Salzburg Global Seminar World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) HundrEDorg Ashoka Catalyst 2030 The Weaving Lab Regenerative Communities Network Natalia Segovia Cadavid Sean Southey Cheryl Charles Vasanti Rao Katalin Czippan Natalie Cox James Bartram Ana Valerie Mandri Marie-Philippe Ouellet 🇺🇦 Diana Garlytska Karen Keenleyside Tommy Garnett Yose Cormier Bernard Combes meg ooko

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 In a world increasingly impacted by the realities of climate change, the need to equip the younger generation with the knowledge and tools to address these challenges has never been more critical. In Osun State, Nigeria, the effects of environmental degradation are already being felt—erratic weather patterns, dwindling agricultural yields, and rising temperatures are putting pressure on the economy and the community's way of life. Our founder at Ecociti rose to an urgent need under the auspice of UN SDSN Youth to educate young minds about sustainable development, including the importance of Climate Action (SDG 13), to safeguard our future and the planet. With a deep commitment to fostering environmental stewardship among youth, @Dorcas set out to educate over 350 students on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus was clear: 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟑) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲. The challenge was to make these concepts relatable and actionable, empowering students to become agents of change in their communities. She led a series of dynamic workshops, interactive sessions, and hands-on activities that brought the SDGs to life for these students. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬. They explored the connections between climate action and economic stability, understanding how sustainable practices can lead to job creation and long-term economic resilience. Over 350 students left the program not just with a deeper understanding of climate action but with a sense of purpose and responsibility, and they became ambassadors of the SDGs, Today, these 350+ students represent 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, thus laying the foundation for a more resilient and equitable future.

Climate change is a complex issue demanding multifaceted solutions. Integrating climate and environmental education is not just crucial, but imperative. Environmental education lays the foundation for understanding our planet's systems. From biodiversity to ecosystems, it equips us with knowledge. Climate education builds on this, focusing on the human impact and potential solutions. By merging these two, we create: Informed Citizens: Individuals equipped to make informed decisions and advocate for sustainability. Innovative Problem Solvers: Future leaders with the skills to tackle climate challenges. A Sustainable Future: A world where harmony between humans and nature is a reality. Let's work together to foster a generation of environmental stewards and climate champions. #actnowkenya#climateeducation #environmentaleducation #sustainability #education #futureleaders #greenfuture

Climate change and biodiversity loss are defining challenges of our time. With 2023 set to be the hottest year on record, the urgency to tackle environmental sustainability has never been greater. #WorldEducationBlog post by Francesca Borgonovi and Helke Seitz (OECD - OCDE), and Ottavia Brussino (J-PAL Europe) explores the evolving landscape of environmental sustainability competence. Key points include: 🌱 Environmental and digital transformations are outpacing education and skills policies. 🌱 Many students are proficient in science, but few have foundational levels of environmental sustainability competence. 🌱 Among those competent, many have the ‘skill’ but not the ‘will’ to act on it. 🌱 Socioeconomic disparities exist, with disadvantaged youth less likely to have both the skills and mindset for environmental sustainability. The blog examines these disparities and offers insights from international assessments. On #BiodiversityDay, discover how education can empower youth for a greener future: https://bit.ly/497f721 #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #GEMReport #UNESCO #GreeningEducation #ForNature
