MY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE During the internship, I had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into the world of precision engineering and manufacturing. I spent a significant amount of time working with milling machines, learning the intricacies of product making. Utilizing SolidWorks and AutoCAD, I designed and modeled various components, translating conceptual ideas into practical, manufacturable designs. Implementing the 5S methodology in the workspace helped improve efficiency, reduce waste, and create a safer working environment. Learning about cost estimation provided valuable insights into the financial aspects of manufacturing, while understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) ensured parts met required specifications. I also delved into the importance of product packing, learning various techniques to ensure products are packed securely and efficiently. In the realm of metrology, I gained hands-on experience with precision measurement tools and techniques, highlighting the importance of accuracy in the manufacturing process. Finally, time management was an overarching theme throughout my internship, helping me balance multiple projects, meet deadlines, and optimize #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

Knowledge I’ve learned at my Internship with Gibbs Die Casting: • How dies function, as well as, how the die go together. • How difficult working on dies can be especially when things are not labeled properly. • The importance of paying attention to what is around you when working and to be careful when dies are being lifted by the crane. • How to prep inserts for the Nitride Process to help increase its durability. • How to use equipment like wire wheels, impacts, pipe threaders, wheel grinders, and multiple other tools that help complete tasks necessary to fixing the dies. • How to create Die Books using PowerPoint as well as how to link labels to print files for the specified part. • How to manipulate CAD Models through the NX software to see the parts required for the model to create the Die Books. • The importance of communicating clearly with people on my team so that things get done efficiently. Overall, I have learned so much through my internship with Gibbs Die Casting and can not wait to keep learning more over the summer. I am very grateful for the opportunity provided to me from the company as well as the teachers at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center who have taught me to be a professional worker. I am also very grateful for my supervisor, Alan Hashman, who has taken me under his wing by helping me learn the skills at my internship. #indianaCTE #internships, #engineering, Alan Hashman @SouthernIndianaCareer&TechnicalCenter, #GibbsDieCasting, #careertecheducation, @SICTCEngineering&ArchitectureAlumni, J. 📣 Shoutout to Liam! 🌟 Diving into my machinist engineering apprenticeship, each day unfurls a mastery of precision. Guided by the savvy of storied professionals, it's where technical skill, inventive flair, and hands-on artistry fuse—an exhilarating mix for daily victories! 🛠️ I start by cracking the code of CAD drawings, turning cryptic sketches into my own 2D CAD creations. I've soared from novice to maestro, now spearheading the laser CNC with finesse, sculpting materials into remarkable realities. In my 6-year journey at SMB Pressings, I've scaled a mountain of growth. From mastering designs to commanding the laser CNC, bending metal, and bringing ideas to life, my progression has been nothing short of meteoric. 💡 I've branched out from laser accuracy to job estimations, skillfully juggling calculations and costs, with a broadened repertoire encompassing welding to CNC, underpinned by deep material science insight. At 22, with a top-notch Level 3 engineering certificate shining with merits, I've excelled at SMB Pressings. It's more than a job; it's a fertile ground for an aspiring engineer's growth. #EngineeringJourney #ApprenticeshipGoals #PrecisionCraftsmanship 🎓🔧

🎬 Apprentice Journey: From Technician to Tutor. Every apprentice starts somewhere, and this timeline reminds us of the importance of collaboration. 📅 2016 - At 19 years old Ben worked as a car salesman. He had a friend who worked in NDT offshore who used to tell Ben all about his travels and work within his NDT role, even down to his involvement with Lavenders. Ben was very intrigued because he always had a passion for travel. 📅 2017 - Because of the opportunities a life in NDT can give you when it comes to travel, Ben started to look out for NDT job vacancies within the Sheffield area and was soon offered an apprenticeship at AMRC Training Centre as a Radiographic NDT Technician. Ben thoroughly enjoyed his time at AMRC being exposed to both theoretical and practical engineering, working with CAD, Robotics and 3D printing, but with little room to progress, after 8 years, started to look elsewhere to further his career. 📅 2024 - Fast forward to 2024 and Ben came to Lavenders in Penistone to complete his MT training, where he then got the idea to apply for an apprenticeship tutor role. Having originally been an apprentice within NDT himself Ben really thought he would have the skills necessary to effectively teach and train the next generation of NDT professionals. 📅 Nov 2024 - Ben was successful with his application and starts his new role with Lavenders as an apprenticeship tutor. Amazing work Ben, and a real example of giving back to the industry. We wish you every success! 👏 Why are we sharing this? 🤷♂️ Well it takes more than just one person to guide someone on their career journey, and as we know, NDT is an unknown career sector for so many young people. Many don't even know it is an option, but it is changing with our help. This is why we can never underestimate the part we play in the process and the responsibility we have to continue to grow the NDT sector to ensure it continues to thrive ✨ 🛠️ #ApprenticeJourney #NDTapprenticeshipprovidor #NDTCareerJourney

Precision Concepts is also hosting one of our senior interns, Katie Hoyem. Read below to see her experience so far this semester: From making SOLIDWORKS drawings to applicable parts on the milling machine, this internship is a great opportunity to learn all about the behind the scenes of working with companies and producing products to satisfy their needs! This experience encompasses learning many new things like the importance of precision measuring and how to use different machinery safely and efficiently as well as the fundamental parts of machining like tapping holes for screws or using dowel pins. Different tasks are completed everyday for a myriad of different applications so no two days are the same. This makes it so there's always something different to do and learn. This also comes with the ability to attend meetings and see firsthand how these products are used and applied or if the customer needs any alterations to better suit their needs. Huge thank you to Precision Concepts for this opportunity and for enriching my knowledge on the world of engineering and allowing me to get my hands dirty! #internship #engineering #mechanicalengineering #nghs #stemeducation
