Researchers discovered around 20 security flaws across multiple machine learning (ML) toolkits, including Weave, ZenML, and Deep Lake. These vulnerabilities, identified by JFrog, allow attackers to hijack servers, escalate privileges, and compromise ML pipelines and databases. Notable issues include directory traversal, command injection, and improper access control, enabling remote code execution and data exposure. As the threat landscape continues to evolve, so too must our approach to cybersecurity. Recent research has demonstrated the significant potential of AI and machine learning in enhancing security operations. I feel in today's fast-paced security tools, Chronicle does stand out. So, here is how we can integrate it with LLMs for a better visibility and alert triage: To effectively integrate an LLM for alert triage within Google Chronicle SIEM, you'll primarily need to leverage Chronicle's API capabilities and a suitable LLM API. Here we go: 1. Set up Chronicle API Access: a. Obtain necessary credentials (service account key or OAuth 2.0 client ID and secret) from your Google Cloud Platform project. b. Configure authentication for your chosen programming language (Python, Java, etc.) using libraries like google-auth-library. 2. Retrieve Alerts via API: a. Use the Chronicle Search API to retrieve active alerts. b. Filter alerts based on severity, source, or other relevant criteria. c. Extract key information from each alert, such as: * Alert ID * Description * Severity * Timestamp * Affected resources * Relevant logs or events 3. Prepare Data for LLM Input: a. Structure the extracted alert data into a format suitable for LLM processing, such as JSON or a plain text description. b. Consider adding context to the input, such as: * Recent security trends and threats * Known vulnerabilities and exploits * Historical incident data 4. Send Requests to LLM API: a. Use the LLM API (e.g., Google AI, OpenAI) to send the prepared alert data as a prompt. b. Craft the prompt to guide the LLM's analysis, such as: * "Analyze the following security alert and provide a concise summary, potential root cause, and recommended actions." * "Prioritize this alert based on its severity and potential impact." * "Identify any known vulnerabilities or attack techniques associated with this alert." 5. Process LLM Response: a. Parse the LLM's response to extract: * Summary of the alert * Potential root cause(s) * Recommended actions (e.g., investigation, remediation, notification) * Prioritization level 6. Integrate with Chronicle: a. Update the alert in Chronicle with the LLM-generated insights, such as adding tags, comments, or changing the severity level. b. Trigger automated workflows or notifications based on the LLM's recommendations. c. While research has shown that GenAI can find vulnerabilities like XSS, CSRF, and SQL injections, what about the vulnerabilities without identifiable patterns that no existing SAST/DAST tools can find? For the first time, our research, BOLABuster, demonstrates that LLMs can help find Broken Object-Level Authorization (#BOLA) vulnerabilities, the top threat on the OWASP Top 10 and HackerOne Top 10. BOLABuster has uncovered 17 new vulnerabilities across multiple open-source projects.
