👉 Europe's state of #water 2024? It is under #stress! The latest report of the #EuropeanEnvironmentAgency (#EEA) states: The need for improved #waterresilience is self evident once we acknowledge that water stress already affects 20% of Europe's #territory and 30% of the #population, figures that are likely to #increase in the future due to #climatechange. The deadline set by the #WaterFrameworkDirective (#WFD) for European rivers, lakes, transitional, coastal and groundwaters to meet #good status was #2015. That was #not met and there has been little improvement since #2010. The most significant #pressure impacting both surface and groundwaters arises (#unsurprisingly) from #ConventionalAgriculture, resulting from water use and #pollution through intensive use of nutrients and #pesticides. Now the #NationalInstitutesofHealth (U.S. Dep. of Health & Human Services) emphasized already in 2020 the urgent need to #reduce #MeatConsumption for the #benefit of people & planet. If #AnimalFeedCropProduction would be directed at #HumanConsumption, #hunger on earth would disappear as it would enable us to #feed 4 billion more #people! By the way: Reducing the over-use of #antibiotics in #animalagriculture could reduce #AntibioticResistancePrevalence in humans by #24%! https://lnkd.in/eKr6wdzh https://lnkd.in/eiRXEvcz #Sustainability, #SustainableAgriculture, #PlantBasedNutrition, #Decarbonization, #SDG, #TwinTransition, #Diversity, #Kaizen

💧 Water is central to CYCLEe's mission, and understanding its significance amidst climate change is vital. 🌍 That's why we're delving into the latest insights from the European Environment Agency (EEA) report, which highlights the worsening impacts of climate change on water quality and human health across Europe. According to the report, floods, droughts, and declining water quality are posing increasingly serious threats to our well-being. It's alarming to learn that between 1980 and 2022, over 5,500 flood-related deaths and 702 wildfire-related deaths were recorded in Europe alone. As advocates for sustainability and environmental health, we believe it's essential to fast-track implementation and better coordinate efforts by governments, water authorities, and healthcare providers. At CYCLE, we're committed to promoting sustainable practices that preserve water resources. Through our innovative approach to circular economy principles, we strive to integrate eco-friendly practices into our product development process. From sourcing sustainable ingredients to reducing packaging waste, we're dedicated to safeguarding water for future generations. The report also underscores the urgent need to prioritize climate-resilient strategies that safeguard public health and well-being. Toilet may seem like a mundane fixture, but it holds the key to unlocking a #sustainable future. The ripple effects of poor sanitation extend far beyond our #health and well-being. Poor #sanitation poses significant threats to our planet's climate and environment. ➡️673 million people worldwide defecate in the open, releasing 40% of global fecal waste into the environment (WHO/UNICEF). ➡️80% of wastewater flows back into ecosystems without treatment (UNESCO). -➡️Sanitation-related diseases kill over 800,000 people annually, with climate change exacerbating these numbers (Lancet). Untreated wastewater and fecal sludge release methane, a potent greenhouse gas, contributing to climate change. Poor sanitation contaminates water sources, harming aquatic ecosystems and human health. Contaminated water and soil compromise agricultural productivity. We can not ignore the intricate relationship between sanitation, climate, and environment. As we approach 2030, there is urgent need to develop cutting-edge solutions for sanitation and wastewater management. 🏷️Join the Conversation: 🏷️Take Action: Let's promote ideas that prioritizes human health, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience. ♻️Share this post with your network #mrtoilet #WorldToiletOrganization #sanitationforall #SustainableFuture

The COVID-19 pandemic has had diverse effects on coastal and marine environments, with some exacerbating existing challenges while others presenting unexpected benefits. One notable impact has been the aggravation of microplastic pollution in these ecosystems, particularly in regions like southeast Asia. Conversely, the pandemic-induced lockdowns led to improved air quality, offering a glimpse of the potential benefits of reduced human activity on environmental health. In response to these challenges, four strategies have been proposed to address the adverse effects of COVID-19 on coastal and marine environments, highlighting the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding these fragile ecosystems for the future. #COVID19 #Environment #MarinePollution 🌊🌍♻️ https://lnkd.in/dE_6ieXa

In this recent study only seven countries, out of 134 regions and countries surveyed, were found to have breathable air within safe World Health Organization limits: Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius and New Zealand. Measuring a type of airborne pollution known as "particulate matter 2.5" (PM2.5), typically caused by motor vehicles and industrial processes and linked to both heart disease and asthma, this study highlights the depth of work that still needs to be done to safeguard humanity from the harmful effects of poor quality air. Purpose-built monitoring systems, accurate environmental data, and increased awareness around the importance of air quality will go a long way towards improving health outcomes for people around the world. As wildfires, fueled by climate change, rage more frequently and intensely, the threat of wildfire smoke looms larger. This smoke, laden with harmful particles, poses a grave health risk to communities across North America and beyond. 🌲🔥 The American Lung Association reports that, as a rough estimate, 4 out of 10 Americans are exposed to unhealthy levels of air pollution. As First Street showed in its study, this is primarily due to increased smoke from wildfires. 📰 Despite advancements in addressing other climate-related perils like floods and hurricanes, mitigating the impact of wildfire smoke remains a formidable challenge. Its far-reaching and long-term consequences make it difficult to protect against effectively. 🛡️ According to Dr. Amara Holder, a research scientist at the US Environmental Protection Agency, the best way to reduce smoke indoors is “With an air cleaner, which is a device that removes fine particulate matter from the air. A 'true HEPA filter' is going to be the one that reduces particulate matter.” Metalmark offers a solution with its Tatama air cleaner. Equipped with advanced HEPA filtration technology, Tatama is designed to combat indoor air pollution efficiently, providing protection for commercial buildings amidst worsening outdoor air quality. 🏢💨 Don't wait until the problem escalates – take proactive steps now to safeguard the health and well-being of your team with Tatama. 🌬️✨ Click to read about “State of the Air” Report: https://lnkd.in/ehsZYVaE #Metalmarkinnovations #unhealthyair #climatechange #airpollutants #Hepafilters #healthfactors #airqualitymatters #tatama
