“Teaching the curriculum is about content. Teaching students is about connection" raises an important point about the balance teachers need to strike between delivering knowledge, building relationships and staying sane in the process Maybe as I’m old school generation X I dont know, but I whole heartedly disagree with prescriptive schemes. You get handed a scheme of work or a pre-designed curriculum, and it can feel like the easiest option is to just follow it to the letter. You teach what’s on the page, stick to the plan, and keep things simple. But here’s the truth: teaching isn’t about just ticking boxes or getting through the content as quickly and easily as possible. If we’re being honest, that’s the bare minimum. And let’s face it—students can tell when we’re just *going through the motions*. They tell us with their disengagement, lack of focus, effort, behaviour and achievement. This is where the real challenge comes in: **don’t just follow the scheme of work—make it your own.** Yes, you’ve got objectives you need to hit, and those aren’t going anywhere and it’s great to have that skeleton of horizontal and vertical progression, but how you get there is where the creativity and effort come in. You don’t need to rely on a pre-packaged set of resources. Instead, think about how you can adapt and create new resources that speak to your students’ needs. How can you make the content more engaging, more relatable, and more meaningful for them? How can you design lessons that hook them in, spark curiosity and promote real learning? Teaching isn’t about showing up, reading from a textbook, and heading home at the end of the day with the least effort possible. It’s about helping students learn in ways that resonate with them. Take ownership of your materials and make them work for your class. Customizing your resources might take more time, but it pays off in student engagement and deeper learning. Think about this: every class you teach is unique. Every group of students comes with different backgrounds, interests, and ways of thinking. A scheme of work might give you the structure, but it’s your job to breathe life into it. If you’re sticking to the same old resources every year, are you really adapting to their needs? Are you creating the kind of lessons that meet them where they are *right now*—or are you just giving them what you got last year and calling it a day? So here’s the challenge: **don’t just teach the book—make the learning your own.** Adapt, create, and innovate with the resources you use. Yes, stick to the objectives, but take the time to think about how to make the learning process more dynamic and engaging for your students. If you’re not putting in the effort to make the lessons come alive, then are you really teaching, or just going through the motions? Don’t settle for the easy route. Teaching is about more than just getting through the content—it’s about connecting with students in a way that helps them truly learn.

Sometimes, some of us wonder how the educational content being delivered to students is determined to suit their academic level and age. One of those days, during an Harmonic lab session, a curious student approached me with a question that sparked a meaningful conversation. "Mr. Sam, how do you decide what we should study?" he asked. So, let's dive deep into the intricate world of curriculum design and the collaborative efforts that shape our educational landscape: 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙪𝙢 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 1. School Leaders: assess standards and community expectations. 2. Teachers: set clear goals aligned with the institution's vision. 3. Implementation Partners: integrate standards and skills. 4. Stakeholders: contribute insights for curriculum design. 5. Educational Consultants: outline topics and outcomes. 6. Vendor Partners: provide resources for implementation. 7. Training Specialists: equip teachers with necessary skills. 8. Change Management Experts: ensure smooth transitions. 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙪𝙢 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: 1. Needs Assessment: Curriculum developers are detectives. They scour the educational landscape meticulously. They identify areas for improvement and growth. This ensures the curriculum evolves to meet demands.. 2. Setting Goals and Objectives: A clear vision guides these visionaries. They collaborate with stakeholders. Together, they craft measurable goals aligned with cultural realities and strategic educational initiatives. 3. Designing the Curriculum: The stakeholders ensemble works in harmony. They develop a coherent curricular framework. It seamlessly integrates academic standards, essential skills, and real-world applications. A masterpiece resonates with learners' experiences. 4. Syllabus: Then the curriculum designers outline the scope and sequence of topics and learning outcomes for the academic year. 5. Scheme of Work: With precision, the ministry and policymakers break down the syllabus. They orchestrate timing, pacing, and sequencing thoughtfully. A smooth, purposeful learning journey is ensured. 6. Lesson Plan: Then teachers create detailed learner-centered plans for individual lessons, including objectives, strategies, and assessments. 7. Implementation: Teacher's then execute the designed curriculum through dynamic teaching practices and authentic assessments, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. 8. Class Content: Using pedagogical methodologies, teachers then deliver engaging instructional content aligned with curriculum objectives through utilizing available resources to facilitate student learning outcomes and mastery of concepts. Indeed, education is a collaborative journey involving dedicated individuals and stakeholders contributing to shape and enrich the learning experiences for our students. #EducationLeadership #CurriculumDesign #Teaching 🔍 FOLLOW: for more insightful content like this. 🔄 REPOST: to support

Standards integration vs alignment can make all the difference in efficacy.
For educational publishers, a well-designed CMS is not just a content repository, but a powerful tool for creating standards-based, educator-friendly curriculum materials. By leveraging the capabilities of an education-focused CMS, publishers can develop content that natively integrates standards, offers comprehensive performance tracking, demonstrates clear standards adherence, supports robust reporting, and achieves optimal standards alignment. This approach not only enhances the value of their offerings but also significantly supports educators in delivering effective, standards-aligned instruction.

### Recognizing Word Endings: Effective Strategies for Teaching Kids Recognizing word endings, such as "-ing," "-ed," and "-s," is a key skill in reading and writing that helps students decode and understand words more effectively. These endings, or suffixes, can change the meaning or function of a word, such as turning a verb into a noun or indicating tense. Mastering word endings enhances a child’s ability to read fluently and write accurately. Implementing effective teaching strategies can make learning these endings engaging and manageable for young learners. To teach word endings effectively, start with explicit instruction and clear examples. Begin by introducing common word endings and explaining their functions. For instance, explain that adding “-ing” to a verb, like “run,” creates “running,” and adding “-ed” indicates past tense, as in “jumped.” Use visual aids, such as charts or flashcards, to display examples of different word endings and their effects on base words. Demonstrating how these endings alter word meanings helps students understand their significance and application. Incorporate interactive and engaging activities to reinforce the recognition of word endings. Phonics games and exercises, such as “Suffix Bingo” or “Word Ending Match-Up,” can make learning fun and effective. For example, create a bingo game where students cover squares with different word endings as they identify them in words or sentences. Activities like word building, where students add various endings to base words to create new words, also provide hands-on practice and reinforce their understanding of how endings change word meaning. Integrate word ending practice into daily reading and writing tasks to support continued learning. Encourage students to identify and analyze word endings in their reading materials, discussing how these endings impact the words' meanings. Provide writing prompts that include various word endings, helping students apply their knowledge in context. Regular review and practice through targeted exercises or class discussions ensure that students become proficient in recognizing and using word endings accurately. In conclusion, recognizing and understanding word endings is crucial for developing strong reading and writing skills. By providing clear instruction, engaging activities, and consistent practice, educators can support students in mastering word endings and enhancing their literacy abilities. **DM me to learn more!** If you’re interested in additional strategies and resources for teaching word endings, feel free to reach out.
