Port Strike Disruptions on U.S. East and Gulf Coasts – Key Updates and Impact As of midnight on September 30th, container operations have been halted following unsuccessful negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). While the strike's duration is uncertain, estimates suggest it could last between 3 to 7 days—though this remains speculative. For context, each day of port closure typically results in about a week’s worth of backlog clearance once operations resume. Although USMX has requested government intervention, the administration has opted not to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act, which would pause the strike for up to 80 days. Instead, they are urging both parties to continue collective bargaining efforts. The attached map highlights the affected ports. Please note, Canadian and Mexican ports are not viable options for household goods (HHGs) shipments destined for the U.S. due to customs clearance restrictions. Our teams have been proactively preparing for this potential disruption. If you have any concerns or questions about specific shipments, don’t hesitate to reach out to your International Move Coordinator for support. #SupplyChain #Logistics #ShippingUpdate #MaritimeIndustry #StrikeImpact
