The tarp must be made of 0.81 kilograms per square meter (24 ounces per square yard) PVC, which gives it the property of buoyancy. For a four-person widow, it has to provide buoyancy for at least five people, while an eight-person widow has to provide buoyancy for at least nine people. At the bottom and as a floor, it must have a cable mesh, nylon of 1.27 centimeters (1/2 inch) in diameter, which has the function of giving structure and floor to the widow; Optionally, it may be required with a floor consisting of a medium-density polyethylene device, orange or optical yellow in color, which must support a weight equivalent to five or nine people for widows of four or eight people respectively. This floor must have peepholes fiber grid, in order to have vision towards the part where the widow is going to be positioned. The lower ring must have four SOLAS grade reflectors measuring 50 by 15 centimeters (19.6 and 5.9 inches), placed equidistantly on the canvas. The approximate dimensions for a four-person widow should be as follows: top ring 76.2 centimeters (30 inches) in diameter, bottom ring 182.9 centimeters (72 inches) in diameter, distance between rings 274.3 centimeters (108 inches) and total height of the net 883.9 centimeters (348 inches).
