As the caregiver to a Wounded Warrior and mother of two young children, most of our household and family responsibilities fall on me. After my recent surgery, Wounded Warriors Family Support made it possible to have my mother travel and stay with us to help out so I was able to recover. We did not have the funds to get her here and she had to take time off work with no pay. She couldn't have come if it were not for your help. As a caregiver, a lot of times I put myself last. This gave me an opportunity to put myself and my recovery first. WWFS has also helped with childcare so that my husband and I were able to attend a much needed marriage retreat. I cannot begin to say how much we appreciate all of the help WWFS has provided our family. When people hear that you work in “research”, it can be hard to understand what that actually involves… especially when you hear there are no labs and white coats?! This STEPtember, I’d like to share some of the different ways “cerebral palsy” (CP) is being researched around the globe – through the support from Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Grants program. CPA supports researchers who are reimagining the way we support very sick babies with brain injury transition from NICU, to early intervention in the community. We fund projects aimed at improving participation, quality of life, pain and mental health of young people living with CP. We collaborate with researchers working hard in Low-and-Middle-Income-Countries to actively support children living with very high disability support needs. We support programs right here in Aus, designed to better understand and improve respiratory health for children who are at risk of breathing difficulties. How life changing that could be for so, so many families…. If you’re keen to support us, please head to our STEPtember page: https://lnkd.in/g7vg97FP

For nearly three decades, we have provided holistic care to thousands of members of the community suffering from life limiting illnesses. We've held hands with families, including children, offering solace through grief and bereavement services. The need for palliative care in our region will triple in the next decade. Tragically, last year, over 60 people died waiting for a bed at Ipswich Hospice Care—lives that could have ended peacefully, surrounded by family. While we're grateful for the government support we receive, it only covers half of our operational costs, leaving us with a significant funding gap of approximately $1 million each year. This means we rely on the generosity of our community to bridge the gap and ensure that we are able to continue delivering our much needed services. Services, which I might add, are provided at no cost to our guests. That's why we urgently need your support to continue providing much needed care to people suffering from life limiting illnesses, but also to grow to meet future demand for our services. Words like these, from a recent family member we supported, capture the essence of what we aim to achieve: “𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐩𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐝’𝐬 fi𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲. In the beginning, OHT concentrated its donations on organizations that helped wounded and recovering service members and veterans adjust to and overcome their physical challenges. Then, with "war" no longer raging, we pivoted to address the mental health challenges associated with service. This new series will show you just how grave the mental health crisis is on those who serve. There's such a need to join our mission and get involved by making a purchase of OHT products, making a donation or getting involved with a veterans organization. Now is the time to make a difference! ➡️ www.operationhattrick.org to get involved! 📃 Sources of this Series: * Stop Soldier Suicide * U.S. Department of Defense * US. The mind can be a very powerful thing. To some degree, our perception can be our reality. When days are exceptionally hard and painful, it can be difficult to find anything to be positive about. Try to challenge the negative perceptions that arise and cut down any defeating self-talk that, more often than not, intensifies physical ailments. This post (link below) launches PCV's spring fundraising effort. Please support our vital work. We know from Vermont Department of Health data and from our own helpline experience, that the number of people who are considering or using medical aid in dying in Vermont has tripled over the past two years. This is not news about more people dying. This is news about a blossoming of choice. More people who might otherwise be entering a phase of fear, pain and trauma for themselves and their loved ones are free to step off that path and make a conscious choice about where, when, and with whom they will make their farewell. We think this note of gratitude sums it up well: “Thank you deeply for the quality & depth of the information on your website. Its clarity and palpable respect for life, patients and the challenge it is to die has provided comfort, hope, and peace. I can plan knowing freedom & options are possible.” With your support, our work is bringing the option of a graceful exit and peace of mind to ever more people. https://lnkd.in/eS_kSxhT

When True Patriot Love was founded 15 years ago, our goal was to address gaps in funding and programming for military members, Veterans and their families. This work is as relevant and critical today as ever and we know the future will bring emerging needs that require both our, and your, unwavering support. True Patriot Love works to create and convene a powerful network of partners and programs so Veterans and members of the military can live with the security, dignity and purpose that their service and sacrifice deserve. We do this by funding a variety of community-based organizations, funding research, and leading strategic initiatives and advocacy for the military and Veteran community, as well as their families. When it comes to the health and wellbeing of the military community, we know the stakes are high. Physical injuries, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and moral injury all challenge our Veterans. In addition to this, children in military families report more than twice the rate of mental health challenges as civilian youth. This is why True Patriot Love funded a broad range of programs this year, including: • Supporting ASIST suicide prevention training programs in Ontario and Alberta • Helping the Montreal Military Family Resource Centre increase access to mental health care for military spouses and children despite moves and deployments • Providing supports for Veterans living with service-related brain injuries through Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada • Connecting military families across Canada to Strongest Families Institute coaching services that teach effective parenting skills • Funding therapeutic creative arts programs that help participants process trauma and heal, like Creative Warrior and Guitars for Vets • Supporting day camps offered by Military Family Resource Centres across Canada, as well as providing grants for children and youth to attend the camp of their choice These vital programs that support military members, Veterans and their families require an investment from donors like you. Early intervention is a critical pillar of our Journey of Care™ at Beyond Blindness. We are excited to celebrate the introduction of a landmark bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that will establish grants for states and communities to improve children's vision and eye health through a coordinated system of care. Called the Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act, it aims to ensure all children will receive screening and care that will help overcome any obstacles and delays caused by a visual impairment. While there are several public health programs that offer support for other areas of pediatric health, this will be the first federally funded program addressing vision and equitable eye care for children. As a leader in early intervention for Orange County children with visual impairments and other disabilities, we believe this is an important step forward in delivering quality care to every family in need. It will not only provide more opportunities for early detection of vision concerns, but also reduce disparities in eye health and remove barriers to care that will put infants and toddlers on the path to achieving their fullest potential. For more information about Beyond Blindness' early intervention services, visit https://lnkd.in/gPb-mQEZ or email Irene Takahashi at irene.takahashi@beyondblindness.org. #BeyondBlindness #OCNonprofit #EarlyDetection #EDVIAct #VisionCare

One of the things I learned at Camp Southern Ground Warrior Pathh was about how service to your community is an important part of post traumatic growth. When we think about post-traumatic growth, we often focus on personal healing—rebuilding our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. But an essential component of this journey is often overlooked: service to others. At Second Responder Inc., we believe that by serving our community, we not only give back but also create space for our own healing. For first responders, veterans, and their families, engaging in meaningful work that benefits others can be a powerful catalyst for growth. It reconnects us with our purpose, strengthens our sense of identity, and fosters resilience. This is why I volunteer at another non-profit in Fort Payne. I love helping out the Executive Director of Marked For Life Ministries. They serve those facing homelessness, addiction, and food insecurity. They are absolutely setting the standard for what that looks like in our area. When we step outside of ourselves to help those around us, we discover that our experiences—no matter how difficult—can be a source of strength and inspiration. Service allows us to transform our pain into purpose, our struggles into strength, and our challenges into opportunities for connection. Through acts of service, we heal. Through community, we thrive. #PostTraumaticGrowth #CommunityService #Veterans #FirstResponders #HealingTogether #SecondResponder
