Two fundamental questions drove our design for West Park High School. First, we asked the larger group to define the environments we must provide to prepare our students for their futures. Second, we asked students what they need to be successful. Check out DLR Group's resulting design. Roseville Joint Union High School District #educationdesign #highschool

Building classrooms for the ever-increasing independent school sector has moved beyond putting kids in boxes, and it’s not just adding more demountables on already congested playspace. If your school is planning to construct education facilities in the near future, ensure you get the right advice from today’s leading researchers. The Tomorrow's Environments for Learning workshop brings together architects, educators and academia to discuss the factors that make a critical difference to learning, other than great teachers. Learn how lighting, fresh airflow, materials, colours, outdoor access, textures, acoustics and plants play a critical role in the design of a classroom that destresses students by catering for their wellbeing, and creating an environment conducive to learning. Students spend nearly 16,000 hours in a Kindergarten to Year 12 school, so the decisions that school leaders make today will have an impact for decades to come. It pays to get it right. The event includes site visits to two schools to showcase brilliant design. #classroomdesign https://lnkd.in/gRSBZVU8 #schools #independentschools #education #teaching #environment

A fire pit. Created by elementary students for our outdoor classroom. - We began with questions and researched the location. - We measured the space. - We calculated dimensions and made 3-D designs using Lego bricks. - We gathered actual bricks during the demolition of our community's old Senior Center. - We measured and staked out the dig site. - We dug the hole, measured again, and made adjustments. - We leveled the foundation and began placing bricks. - We leveled and checked measurements along the way. - We assembled and placed the steel insert. - We evaluated our work and built a test fire. - We shared our process and product with families. That's how our students learned fundamental concepts of the engineering design process. That's how our students demonstrated mastery of math standards in linear measurement. That's how our students found a new purpose for a small part of our community's heritage.

NBBJ Design’s Westmark School is Designed for Learning Differences. The global firm’s Los Angeles–based studio worked with landscape architects SWA to create an education space dedicated to both physical and emotional well-being. The lower school campus of the Westmark School, a private academy in Encino, California, dedicated to supporting students with learning differences, is a model for charting a new direction. Not just for educational architecture, but for any type of building. Embracing research in neuroscience, education, and architecture, the facility addresses learning challenges from top to bottom, from incorporating nature and natural materials to encouraging multi-sensory learning to limiting stressors like excess noise and clutter. https://lnkd.in/eqz8ApSP

Educators are getting creative with outdoor classrooms, supporting student well-being, creativity, and academic development. Have you heard of building an Enchanted Forest? It's just one of the many ways educators are designing novel outdoor classrooms. #Education #OutdoorClassroom
Keister Elementary's Enchanted Forest Brooke Imber Brooke Imber describes how she worked with a collaborative network to build an Enchanted Forest outdoor classroom. She shares, “One of the best things about being an elementary school art teacher is getting to dream big about all sorts of ideas with our littlest learners. I taught my classes . . . in a vibrant school garden for several weeks and was amazed at how teaching in a beautiful outdoor setting enhanced my lessons with greater levels of student engagement, more curiosity about the natural world, and a far more positive learning atmosphere.
