Here's a snapshot of what we learned: Abigail MacKenzie-Armes - Intermediate Software Engineer at Cohere Transitioning from finance to frontend engineering, Abigail underscores the importance of self-advocacy and recognizing transferable skills. Nicole Chung - Software Engineer III in Design Systems Nicole's journey from film production to software engineering teaches us the significance of connecting with you team and example as; connecting with your stakeholders and resilience in the face of burnout. Also to learn from your failures and that every experience is part of the journey. Aninda Poddar - Cybersecurity Engineer at Telus Aninda's laughter-filled emphasizes continuous learning in the cybersecurity industry and finding purpose through self-evaluation and having multiple mentors. Yash Masson - Machine Learning Engineer at Telus Yash's battle with imposter syndrome reminds us to advocate for ourselves and engage in collaborative learning. And not being afraid to ask transparent questions. Rajavi Shah - Tech Leader at Telus Rajavi's leadership insights shed light on the power of vulnerability and compassion in driving diversity and representation in tech. Chris Taeyoung Kim (Founder of TechTank and Software Engineer at Cohere) As a moderator, Chris brings a perspective from the software engineering industry enriching our understanding of collaborative tech spaces. New Month: Celebrating Growth and Resilience! May is here, and it feels extra special because it also marks my birthday on the 3rd! This past year has been a whirlwind of growth and resilience, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect. Unemployed and determined to pivot into tech, I applied for the Women Techsters Fellowship at Tech4Dev. Thrilled to say I got accepted into the Product Management program! Since October, I've poured my heart and soul into this program. Just yesterday, we presented our capstone project, a major milestone! While fully immersed in the program, I also found the opportunity to give back. I volunteered as a researcher on another project, even hosting an interview session with a tech startup founder! Sharing knowledge is empowering, after all. It wasn't always smooth sailing. I had a makeup business for income, but after relocating last year, I lost my client base and struggled to rebuild it. There were even moments when someone close to me discouraged me from continuing the program. However, my passion for tech and the incredible support system I built at Tech4Dev fueled my determination. Looking ahead to May and beyond, I'm brimming with excitement for the next chapter! Happy #Tuesday; the 198th day of 2024, and probably the 11th day we have had sunshine so no complaining from us ☀️.. Unfortunately it didn't manage to make its way #home this year 🏆, but still an amazing effort from all of the teams involved and isn't it the taking part that counts 🤷. #england This week, we present our fifth and final edition of our #Hackathon mini series where we have gathered feedback from across the teams. This week, I bring you Team 5️⃣ who had the following to say on the event itself: Haris Velijevic - The Hackathon was an amazing opportunity to test out our skills! It was great to see that #complex ideas and #execution can come to a working prototype within 24 hours as long as what you're working on strongly resonates with the team and everyone is passionate about contributing with their expertise. Having a leadership team and #SMEs fully accessible to consult also made the experience much more fun as we were able to quickly validate our assumptions and ensure we were moving in the right direction! Alan Munro - The recent Hackathon was a fantastic experience. It was great to see everyone expressing their creativity and coming up with innovative solutions. The ideas developed are going to make a real impact going forward. Once again, we want to thank everybody for taking part, and making it the success it was, with some amazing ideas and initiatives thought out in the matter of hours! Thrilled to share that we (Unberry x Grappus) have officially begun Sprint-2X! 🚀 We're on an epic journey - a 72-hour innovation marathon where we cram 6 (many) months of development into just power packed three days (& nights). Yes, you read that right - 4200 hours of work accomplished by 80 people in just 3 days. No (minimal) sleep, just pure, unadulterated focus and determination. Wondering how we're going about this? 1. We've divided our teams into 5 tracks - each team covering one of our product modules. 2. We kicked off today (16th May) at 8 am and our goal is to get all 5 modules to launch readiness by 8 am on Sunday (19th May). 3. At least one person (maybe more) from each team will be working through during every hour of these 3 days. 4. We've spent weeks getting to a point where this sprint will help us accelerate our product roadmap by 6 months. That's HUGE! Throughout our journey, we've been incredibly grateful for all the support we've received from various stakeholders around us - be it our clients, partners, industry leaders, and more. Now, we hope to go through Sprint-2X in full public eye and we want you to take you along with us on this journey. Over the next three days, you’ll see the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Today, I’m tackling coding challenges, attending tech meetups, and building a new career that feels both terrifying and exhilarating.
