Transparency forms the foundations of the accountancy sector, paving the way for long-term relationships centred on the needs of the client. We encourage it in clients both from a compliance perspective and to help us achieve the right outcomes for them – but do we do enough to promote transparency within our firms? I mean transparency in the broadest sense here. It could take any form, from open and ongoing communication to providing insights into our own working processes in a bid to demystify our profession. What is most important is that clients feel that we have taken the time to understand them and that we are truly in their corner. Yes, it does include being open and realistic about their financial position and growth potential, but true transparency needs to go beyond that. When clients understand the efforts behind their accountancy work, they appreciate the value they're receiving, which enhances engagement and ultimately facilitates more efficient work. Transparency from us is essential to giving clients active agency within their relationship with us and to empower them to make decisions about their finances and their future.
