Join us for a conversation with Dr. Kimberly C. Ellis on June 23 at 10:30am. Dr. Ellis will recount the Tulsa Race Riot, War, and Massacre of 1921, with a particular lens on transportation modes and policies which contributed to the demise of Tulsa’s Greenwood business and residential community and how today’s legislations and legal strategies could right some of the wrong, over a century later. https://ow.ly/LGVV50S46e5

The cultural distinctions between North and South Louisiana significantly influence civil verdicts. North Louisiana’s conservative, individualistic, and cautious approach contrasts with South Louisiana’s community-oriented, diverse, and empathetic perspectives. These cultural factors shape jurors’ views on liability, compensation, and justice, leading to differing outcomes in civil cases across the state. Understanding these cultural nuances is crucial for predicting and interpreting jury behavior in civil trials.
For those of you handling lawsuits in Louisiana, you might appreciate some insight on parishes which have generally been defense-oriented, plaintiff-oriented or more neutral. You may disagree with this visual representation. If so, I would like your insight. Also, about twelve years ago, I wrote an article on the cultural differences in North and South Louisiana. I believe it's still relevant today so if you would like a copy, please contact me at perkins@perkinsfirm.com and I will forward to you some very interesting background on Louisiana and why you should not assume that all of Louisiana is right outside of New Orleans.
