WVU-Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), funded by the DOE Manufacturing & Energy Supply Chains Office (MESC) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), conducted an IAC assessment at Signode, located in Eden, North Carolina, on 11/25/2024. The assessment was led by Dr. Bhaskaran Gopalakrishnan, Director of WVU-Industrial Assessment Center, along with students Bibek Prajapati, Nishan Adhikari, E.I.T., and Abdullah Alfadhli. The Signode plant in Eden, North Carolina, specializes in producing plastic packaging products. They manufacture PTC top frames, plastic separator sheets, and layer sheets, all designed to be clean, washable, and 100% recyclable.

APR is thrilled to share our latest report, revealing groundbreaking insights on the possibility of pyrolysis as a complement to mechanical FFP recycling. Prepared by Eunomia Research & Consulting, our study, "How to Scale the Recycling of Flexible Film Packaging," provides a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities for increased FFP recovery volumes. 📊♻️ As our President & CEO, Steve Alexander, aptly states, "Like mechanical recycling, chemical recycling technologies will not scale without changes in package design, substantial investments in collection and sortation infrastructure, stronger consumer participation, and improved economic levers for manufacturers to encourage more use of recycled content." Delve into the logistics, costs, and policy recommendations necessary for change. https://ow.ly/3r6V50QXOmv

How can we ensure consistent good quality, when we have no control over material properties? Circular economy is one of the most discussed topics in the plastics industry. Maintaining control over process and product quality despite the integration of plastics recyclates is one of the biggest challenges. Kistler expert Thomas Michael Koch discusses solutions and different approaches in his talk “Circular Economy – Controllability of plastics recyclates with cavity pressure” at the Biopolymer Processing & Moulding congress (Halle an der Saale) on June 11, 2024! Interested? Make sure to join Thomas live or tune into the live stream of the entire event 👉 https://lnkd.in/gFmGh7qN #KistlerGroup #CircularEconomy #CavityPressure

No Canary's R&D Battery-to-Black Mass Line Recently, we installed this R&D Line for Battery Recyling at an undisclosed research and development facility in Europe. We are sure, that its whereabouts will be published soon, but this will be reserved for our valued customer. We have been asked to design a line with a similar functionality like the one at BLB - Battery LabFactory Braunschweig and iPAT - Institute for Particle Technology (Institut für Partikeltechnik) at Technische Universität Braunschweig, but smaller. Obviously in order to fit better into a lab... but still able to crush whole battery modules - in a vacuum of <5 mbar absolute pressure. You can see the result below. With this line, the researchers can accelerate their development in battery recycling. Fitting into a lab, this line includes vacuum crusher for battery cells and modules (deactivated by No Canary's Zero-Volt-Discharging technology) and our intensive dryer in order to evaporate and condense the volatile organics). Crushing and drying are performed in a vacuum of 5 mbar absolute pressure. This enhances safety, accelarates the drying process, and obviously reduces leakages to a minimum - which is obviously important in a lab as well as in production. Thanks to Benjamin von Loeper, Jonathan Ahrens, Alexander Specht, and the whole No Canary team for making this happen!

Everyone in the plastics industry knows it: the material pyramid. The basis is made up of standard thermoplastics. At the top are high-performance materials with extreme temperature and chemical resistance. In the middle are engineering thermoplastics. This pyramid also exists for our sustainable materials LUVOTECH eco (PIR and PCR) and LUVOTECH eco+ (PIR, PCR and virgin). The best thing about them is their high material performance and at the same time they come with an attractive pricing. If you are working on reducing the cost of your components but can make little or no compromises on the material properties, then talk to us. We have solutions for you. From PC/ABS, PA up to PPS, LCP and PEEK. https://lnkd.in/eXHJQM8z #LEHVOSS #LUVOTECHeco #Costout #Highperformance #Sustainable

Mechanical Recycling of Post-Use Bioprocessing Plastic Containers Tuesday, September 10th, 2024 The aim of this collaboration work between Sanofi/Veolia and Sartorius was to technically assess the feasibility of the mechanical recycling of bioprocessing bags. Materials from different sorting, and recycling strategies have been characterized, for their suitability for further use. Quantitative physical and mechanical tests and analysis (FTIR, DSC, TGA, density, MFI, color, tensile, flexural, and Charpy choc) were performed. The data show that these recycled plastics could be oriented towards second use requiring physical properties similar to equivalent virgin materials. A comparative life cycle assessment, based on a theoretical framework, shows that mechanical recycling for end of life presents the advantage of keeping material in the loop, without showing a significant statistical difference compared to incineration with regards to the climate change indicator. https://lnkd.in/gu7PN_59 #aspenalert #biotech #bioprocess
