Its a great honour to be invited by the UK Royal Society of Medicine to be their headline speaker at their annual GP and Primary Care conference on 25th September 2024. For those who have been following my work you will know that I have been advocating for the need for a long term vision for health and healthcare in a technology enabled 21st century. A long term vision that can galvanise coordinated and collective action towards a more systemic and holistic model of healthcare that embraces and integrates preventative, early detection and whole person care. The current mechanistic "repair shop" model of healthcare is wholly unsuited to meeting the ongoing needs of an aging population suffering increasing levels of ill health, chronic disease and frailty through loss of function. I will use this opportunity to make the case that short term bootstrapping of primary care - important as it is - is not going to give us the model of continuous, holistic care that is so desperately needed. I will use this opportunity to outline what this future could look like, the new paradigm it calls for and the journey to get there. This will build on my current and previous work e.g: 1. The "Health Beyond the Fog" futures report outlining a long term future for person-centred healthcare in a technology enabled 21st century. commissioned by the Royal Free Charity (https://rb.gy/tx6bra), 2. Imperial College's "Leading Systemic Innovation in Healthcare" executive education programme which I am leading (https://rb.gy/tsfjhy) 3. The Three Horizons work I am involved in with Suffolk and NE Essex ICS and ICP (SNEE) as part of the their whole system "Future Shift" transformation strategy (https://rb.gy/dyvm7f). #nhs #primarycare #health #communities #healthcare #healthfutures #nhsengland #ImperialMeansBusiness #RSM
The 43rd GP update is taking place on the 25th - 27th September and we have put together an agenda designed to educate and spark debate in key areas of primary care. We have divided the event up into three key categories: Day 1 is focusing on clinical topics including new areas of research and key issues faced in General Practice. Our headline speaker on Day 1 is Andy Wilkins, founder of Future of Health. Future of Health is a new think tank and systems convener exploring the long term vision for health and care in a technology enabled 21st century. Throughout his career Andy has undertaken numerous healthcare innovation projects across the health and care landscape and authored high profile reports for the NHS and policy makers. Future of Health show how these can trends can address current health challenges and enable better health outcomes and enable new forms of care. With the sector scheduled for leadership change in the next few weeks, listen to Andy's thoughts on how we should be delivering the best healthcare for patients and which strategies and partnerships will be key.
