The tragic death of an endangered greater glider near a logging site in Yarra Ranges National Park highlights the critical need for immediate action. 💔 Despite warnings, habitat destruction continues, threatening the survival of these unique creatures. 🐾 Dr. Kita Ashman, conservation scientist at WWF-Australia, stated, "Hollow-bearing trees are like gold. Hollows can take hundreds of years to form and without hollows greater gliders and many other threatened species simply can’t survive. It’s outrageous that despite warnings these trees had precious, occupied hollows they were levelled anyway and at least one glider killed. A tree planted right now will not have a usable greater glider hollow in our lifetime. It’s no wonder we face an extinction crisis." Join us in advocating for stricter protection measures and a halt to these harmful practices. We must act before it’s too late. ⏳ 📝 Petition: https://lnkd.in/dp_2jerf 📰 Article: https://lnkd.in/dyycgzVr

Red pandas may be small, but their impact on forest ecosystems is mighty! They provide food for predators like snow leopards and jackals, while also regulating bamboo growth to ensure it doesn’t destroy other plants and tree growth. 🌿🐾 Yet their populations are shrinking due to habitat loss, poaching, and illegal trade. While conservation efforts have made progress, the journey to secure their future is far from over. Every effort counts. Protecting habitats, supporting conservation programs, and spreading awareness are all steps we can take to make a difference. Let’s come together to protect these unique creatures and the ecosystems they support. Be the voice they need! 💚 What are your thoughts on wildlife conservation? It's Earth Day! Conservation is an investment that requires action, and each of us can play a crucial role. There are numerous ways to assist wildlife, here are a couple of methods to show your support for wildlife on Earth Day. 1. Enhance your balcony, yard, or property by adding birdbaths, feeders, bee houses, nest boxes, or bat houses to offer shelter, food, and water for migrating or resident wildlife. 2. Planting native trees, shrubs, and flowers can also provide natural resources for nesting, perching, and protection. 3. Make it a habit to clean up any litter in your surroundings, whether it's on your property or in your neighborhood. Remember that wildlife critters might mistake trash for food, putting them at risk of harm. 4. Increase your awareness of wildlife by familiarizing yourself with the migrating species in your area, being mindful of wildlife crossings on roads, and staying vigilant in your surroundings.

Canada’s prairie grasslands are home to diverse wildlife, including more than 60 at risk species. Yet, Canada’s grasslands are one of the world’s most endangered and least protected ecosystems, with over 60 thousand hectares, or 100,000 football fields lost every year. Landscape conversion and human activity have contributed toward the decline of this vital ecosystem, which has the unique potential to simultaneously sequester carbon, filter water and feed communities across the country. That’s why we have invested $30M over 5 years toward supporting evidence-based management and on the ground conservation. This #NationalGrasslandsAwarenessWeek (USA), join us in celebrating our Prairie Grasslands Initiative grantees Ducks Unlimited Canada Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada @Parks Canada Meewasin Valley Authority and Saskatchewan Stock Growers Foundation for work they continue to do in protecting and sustaining this important habitat. Since 1970, monitored wildlife populations have declined by an average of 73%. The Living Planet Index (LPI) is a crucial tool conservationists use to track these trends and guide action. It measures the status of global wildlife populations, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish, serving as an early warning for extinction risks and the potential collapse of ecosystems. While the LPI highlights alarming declines, there are also success stories that offer hope. Conservation efforts have helped mountain gorillas in central Africa grow by 3% each year from 2010-2016, and by 2020, over 6,800 European bison, once extinct in the wild, were thriving across Europe. To reverse these declines, we must continue to work together to protect habitats, preserve healthy species, and restore populations where needed. This is the ethos we strive towards each day through collaboration with our conservation network. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dMrFVw7y

At Summit Materials, we aim to reclaim as we go, allowing us to repurpose as much as possible back into the earth. 🌱 We strive to restore soil, plant life, and wildlife habitats, while also developing comprehensive reclamation policies. Since our partnership with the Wildlife Habitat Council began, our conservation efforts and certified habitat programs have expanded to include thousands of managed acres. From planting pollinator gardens to encouraging avian species, each of our conservation certification programs is composed of unique projects that are driven by the site’s landscape, the team’s objectives, and an understanding of high-value biodiversity areas. Most recently, we achieved Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) Conservation Certification for our Andrews Quarry. This achievement recognizes the efforts of our company’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship. This World Environment Day we've been out checking in on our hives 🐝🌱 Did you know that habitat loss is generally thought to be the most important factor driving the decline in population of UK pollinators? Over 97% (an area the size of Wales) of all flower-rich grasslands have been lost in England since the 1930s, (and this is mirrored in other parts of the UK) reducing pollen and nectar sources and leading to a serious decline in the wildlife depending on wildflower-rich habitat. UK Charity Buglife's B-Lines Project is an imaginative and beautiful solution to the problem of the loss of flowers and pollinators. The B-Lines are a series of ‘insect pathways’ running through our countryside and towns, along which we are restoring and creating a series of wildflower-rich habitat stepping stones. They link existing wildlife areas together, creating a network, like a railway, that weaves across the UK landscape. This provides large areas of brand new habitat benefiting bees and butterflies– but also a host of other wildlife. If you're looking for a charity to support that directly helps re-build our pollinator habitat then Buglife might be the one for you! For more information about B-Lines and the work that Buglife do to help pollinators head over to their site www.buglife.org.uk
