🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring Week in Martinique 🌟 I am delighted to share my experience representing Ocean of Knowledge Foundation Curaçao at the partnership building activity "Structures" organized by World Society Builders. This enriching event was held from February 3rd to 9th, 2024, on the vibrant Caribbean island of Martinique 🌴. 🌍 Joined by representatives from 18 different organizations across Caribbean islands and European nations, we engaged in a week filled with insightful exchanges and learning. Our discussions centered around environmental projects, with a strong emphasis on understanding and protecting delicate ecosystems unique to various geographical settings. 🌱 The sessions offered a deep dive into the Erasmus+ program's opportunities, catalyzing ideas for new environmental initiatives formatted into KA1, KA2, and ESC projects. The brainstorming sessions were particularly energizing, allowing us to explore innovative approaches to ecological challenges and reinforce our commitment to European Union values. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to World Society Builders for the invitation and the chance to contribute to such a transformative gathering. The connections forged and the ideas sparked in Martinique are stepping stones to future projects that aim to make a significant impact. 🐾 Exciting News: Based on the feedback from our young people in Curaçao, we are proud to have developed a youth exchange project titled "Tomorrow Lab: Activism." This initiative focuses on a pressing issue on our beautiful island—stray animals and their care. We look forward to hosting some fantastic individuals sent by our new partners to help make a significant difference in our community. 🔗 The significance of building partnerships was ever apparent during this event, and I am more committed than ever to advancing these collaborations. Together, we're crafting pathways to meaningful change, bridging continents and cultures with shared visions and goals. #OceanOfKnowledgeFoundationCuracao #ErasmusPlus #EnvironmentalConservation #PartnershipBuilding #SustainableDevelopment #EuropeanSolidarity #WorldSocietyBuilders #YouthExchange #AnimalCareActivism

There are some big shoes to fill at IPBES in 2025! Anne Larigauderie - a key architect, and first Executive Secretary of IPBES, will be stepping down after 10 years of amazing work. This is a critical global science-diplomacy role, and coming off of the growing momentum of the CDB COP-16 in Cali, and the increasing recognition that Biodiversity and Climate are critical interlinked challenges, it is hard to think of a role that could be more defined by impact. IPBES (and really, all of us) need a strong leader in this space with the skills to empower and inspire action - from all sectors - to ensure a biodiversity-rich future. And because IPBES is the primary engine providing the science into the CDB process, we need another strong science-leader to take on this role and provide a global perspective on the importance of biodiversity to people and planet, and support the global science and evidence process that powers national ambition to protect biodiversity.
The IPBES Executive Secretary post is open for application. The UN is seeking experienced leaders who have worked with biodiversity, science-policy, UN rules and regulations, reports, scientists and policy-makers, and who have ambition, commitment, goal-orientation, internationalism, people-skills and ability to empower. The IPBES Secretariat is a wonderful and professional hub of competence for us the Bureau, and for the entire global IPBES community - almost 150 members, numerous observers and stakeholders and thousands of experts. The application details are behind the below link, the closing date is 12 December 2024. CC David Obura T. Douglas Beard Erik Grigoryan Sebsebe Demissew Bishwa Nath Oli Floyd Homer Hamid Custovic Yongyut Trisurat.

Celebrating the Rich Cultural Tapestry of South Africa on Heritage Day Heritage Day, originally known as Shaka Day, was established to honour the legendary Zulu king Shaka Zulu, who unified the Zulu nation. Following South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994, the holiday was renamed to be more inclusive of all South Africans. Today, it is also associated with National Braai Day, celebrating unity through the traditional South African barbecue. Heritage Day promotes unity in diversity by highlighting South Africa's rich cultural variety, fostering mutual respect and understanding. It plays a crucial role in preserving cultural traditions and passing them down to future generations, thus strengthening national pride and promoting a united yet diverse nation. Our cultural heritage also supports Sustainable Development Goals. For example, at TOMA-Now we worked with the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) in Plettenberg Bay were we focused on business training and expanding opportunities in the Bitou agroforestry and natural products sector. One of the highlights on this project was that it focused on fostering growth and development through learning from our past. Similarly, TOMA-Now worked with the same client in 2020 and were involved implementing a wild honeybush harvesting field guide, promoting ecologically sound practices and preserving biodiversity which in essence worked to reduce inequalities by integrating local traditional practices with sustainable approaches. It supported equitable resource distribution and celebrated cultural heritage, reflecting the spirit of Heritage Day. Let’s come together to honour our past and embrace our diverse cultures as we work towards a sustainable future. #HeritageDay #QualityEducation #ReducedInequalities #CulturalDiversity #CelebratingHeritage
