The EU Green Deal has been essential to set the direction towards a green transition for the European economy with effects beyond its borders. A harmonized, stable and predictable (! I know this word is more demand than it used to be!) legal framework across the EU is key for businesses to ensure that they can turn their sustainability efforts into a competitive advantage. Now is the time to make sure that sustainability legislation also paves the way for a level playing field and fair competition for businesses. It is an opportunity to prove that strategic and impact-driven sustainability work is key for business success. We at H&M Group are among the 60 companies raising our voice.  

Just last week, we shared our thoughts on what we hoped to see in Budget 2025. Now, it looks like things are moving in a great direction! Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, has made a bold push to empower the Department of Environment (DOE) to be even more effective in tackling pollution. The DOE might soon get to keep some of the fines it collects, giving them more funds to boost their operations. This could help them improve enforcement and tackle urgent environmental issues more effectively. We're happy to see that stronger policies and actions around sustainability are being considered. Looks like Budget 2025 might bring the sustainability boost we’ve all been hoping for. 👏 Let’s keep the momentum going guys!  Now is the time to explore how your business can contribute—whether through carbon credits, biodiversity projects, or renewable energy investments. ➡ EU's resource reduction and circular economy took a big step in the right direction today! 📉 The Environmental Council Conclusions on the Environmental Action Programme (EAP), noted that current frameworks will not be enough to reduce unsustainable consumption levels and achieve the objectives of the EAP. **8TH ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION PROGRAMME / Member states agree on roadmap 🌍📄** On June 17, representatives of the EU's Twenty-Seven Member States agreed on the lessons from the mid-term evaluation of the 8th Environmental Action Programme, valid until 2030. This roadmap, intended for the next European Commission, contains a long list of desired actions on various environmental topics. The Commission is expected to respond by March 2025. 🔹 **Main Axes of the Roadmap:** - **Circular economy**: Promoting sustainability by reusing, repairing, and recycling products. - **Water management 💧**: Improving the quality and availability of water resources. - **Adaptation and just transition**: Supporting communities and industries for a fair ecological transition. 🔹 **Next Steps:** - **Revision of Priority Actions**: Updates planned as needed, a provision introduced in 2021 to ensure continuity with the Green Deal. - **New Proposal from the European Commission**: Expected within the first hundred days of the next executive, as expressed by German Minister Steffi Lemke.
