"Culling Elephants Won't Solve Hunger, Address Climate Change Inste "The Zimbabwean government's plan to cull 200 elephants is a misguided attempt to address hunger, disguising the real issue: climate change. This destructive approach ignores the root causes of food insecurity and undermines efforts to protect biodiversity. Climate change fuels droughts, land degradation, and water scarcity, exacerbating hunger. Culling elephants won't solve these problems; instead, it will: 1. Harm ecosystems: Elephants maintain forest health, disperse seeds, and create habitats for other species. 2. Undermine conservation efforts: Zimbabwe's elephant population is already vulnerable, and culling will further threaten their survival. 3. Ignore indigenous knowledge: Local communities have coexisted with elephants for centuries; their traditional practices can inform sustainable land management. Real solutions require addressing climate change: 1. Invest in renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions. 2. Promote sustainable agriculture and land use practices. 3. Support climate-resilient agriculture and water management. We demand a comprehensive approach to resource governance and climate justice, prioritizing: 1. Community-led conservation and land management. 2. Climate-resilient agriculture and food systems. 3. Transparency and accountability in resource decision-making. Join us in calling on the Zimbabwean government to: 1. Cancel the elephant cull. 2. Develop a climate-sensitive resource governance framework. 3. Prioritize community-led conservation and sustainable land use practices. #ClimateJustice #ResourceGovernance #ElephantConservation #SustainableLandUse #CommunityLedConservation" *Hashtags:* #Zimbabwe #ClimateAction #BiodiversityMatters #HumanRights #EnvironmentalJustice

Today, on World Environment Day, the focus is placed on land restoration, stopping desertification, and building drought resilience. Africa faces severe desertification, with over 45% of the continent’s land area affected, impacting millions of livelihoods. The combined forces of climate change, deforestation, and unsustainable land management practices exacerbate soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and reduced agricultural productivity. This, in turn, fuels food insecurity, economic instability, and mass migration. Restoring degraded lands is not just an environmental necessity but a socio-economic imperative. We can transform Africa's landscapes and societies by focusing on land restoration and building drought resilience. Restored lands mean healthier ecosystems, improved food security, and stronger economies. Empowering communities through sustainable practices fosters resilience against climate change and reduces the vulnerability of populations to environmental shocks. Nature has always been one of our greatest allies, and now, more than ever, we’re realising just how powerful it can be in the fight against #climatechange. Nature-based solutions (NbS) tap into the inherent strength of ecosystems to provide #sustainable answers to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. From #restoringforests and #wetlands to promoting #sustainableagriculture, these solutions utilise natural processes to absorb #carbonemissions, reduce the risk of #floods and droughts, and support #biodiversity. For example, forests act as natural carbon sinks, while mangroves protect coastlines from storm surges, and sustainable farming practices enhance soil health and water retention. Kenya stands out as a leading example of how #naturebased solutions can effectively address #climatechange while promoting #biodiversity and enhancing community #resilience. The country has embraced initiatives like the #Great #Green #Wall #project, aimed at restoring degraded landscapes across the Sahel and promoting #reforestation efforts in the northern regions. By restoring forests and wetlands, Kenya not only captures #carbonemissions but also protects vital #ecosystems that are home to diverse wildlife. The beauty of NbS is in their simplicity—by working with #nature, we’re not only combating climate change but also boosting #resilience, improving livelihoods, and #preserving the natural world for future generations. What's remarkable is that these solutions can often be more cost-effective than engineered interventions. A well-managed forest or #wetland can serve as a long-term, low-cost buffer against climate impacts while creating jobs, enhancing food security, and promoting #biodiversity. In a world where we’re increasingly looking for innovative #climateaction, nature-based solutions remind us that sometimes the answers have been in front of us all along. #ClimateAction #Sustainability #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateChange #EcosystemRestoration #GreenEconomy

🌍 Today is World Water Day This year, the United Nations and Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance/UN-Habitat (GWOPA) are highlighting the critical link between water and peace with the theme "Water for Peace." Clean water is essential for all living things, yet many communities face challenges in accessing it. When water is scarce or unequally distributed, tensions can rise between communities and nations. But water can also be a unifying force, fostering cooperation and collaboration. It is important to harness the power of water for a more peaceful and sustainable future. We support nature-based projects worldwide that promote sustainability and water security. One of them is the Highland Restoration Project in Northern Ethiopia by EthioTrees which is: 💚 Restoring degraded land: The project addresses drought, erosion, and overgrazing in the Tembien Highlands. 💚 Promoting natural regeneration: They facilitate native tree planting and prevent livestock grazing through "exclosures." 💚 Improving water access: By 2022, they established 100 percolation ponds, increasing water availability in previously inaccessible areas. 💚 Empowering communities: This project tackles water scarcity while enhancing biodiversity and habitat connectivity. Learn more about the project and its impact on our project page. The link to the page is in the comments. #WorldWaterDay2024 #climateaction #sustainability #investinnature #sustainablebusiness #naturebasedsolutions #sustainabilitystrategy #biodiversity #ESG #Earthly #projectEarthly
