Today (30 November) sees the final of the Copa Libertadores - the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League - taking place at River Plate’s Monumental de Núñez stadium in Buenos Aires. Happily it is an afternoon kick-off in Argentina so in the UK you can watch the full match live on BBC 3 or the iPlayer from 20.00. Hosts Argentina will be a neutral bystander today, as the two finalists are once again from Brazil. Rio’s Botafogo and Belo Horizonte’s Clube Atlético Mineiro. This is Atlético-MG's second shot at the South American title, having captured its first Libertadores title in 2013. For Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas it is a Libertadores final for the first time. It is the fourth all-Brazilian CONMEBOL (Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol) Libertadores final in the last five years, and ten of the twelve clubs to have disputed the final since 2019 have been Brazilian. Argentina’s River Plate was the last non-Brazilian club to win the competition in 2018. Rio’s Fluminense is the current champion.

📌 The final of Libertadores is here. Here are the differences between Mineiro and Botafogo off the field ⬇️ *The final will be played at the beautiful Monumental Stadium this year. ➡ The champion will take home $23M. ➡ The runner-up will take home $7M. Historic figures: "The final of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2024 will be the best-paid in the world" — Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL. Another historical fact: ➡ This is the first time in Libertadores history that two SADs (Sports Anonymous Societies) face off. Both teams took advantage of law 14.193/2021, which allows private capital to enter football in Brazil. ➡ Mineiro became a SAD in June 2021. ➡ Botafogo became a SAD in August 2021. Do you think this will mark a new era in America? So far, only 9 clubs in Brazil have become sports anonymous societies. Among them, the two Libertadores finalists. More facts: ➡ Mineiro will play its 2nd final. ➡ Botafogo will play its 1st final. ➡ Mineiro averaged 29,750 attendees in the 23/24 season. ➡ Botafogo averaged 22,601 attendees in the 23/24 season. ➡ Mineiro has won 11 titles. ➡ Botafogo has won 5 titles. ♻️ If you found this useful, pass the ball and share it with other industry professionals. #LinkedInSports

Good morning to all my sports enthusiasts friends from around the globe! Wanted to share a few thoughts about the #CopaLibertadores final that was played last night, a huge game that usually goes under the radar! A quick summary: Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas won the game and are on a path to secure their national trophy. Losing Gregore who was sent out early in the game didn’t prevent them from scoring 3 goals that secured their first international trophy. But this isn’t the story here. During the last 5 years the Brazilian teams restored their hold over the continent with 5 out of 5 international trophies spread over 4 teams (Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, S.E. Palmeiras, Sport Club Corinthians Paulista and Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas), mainly due to the huge amount of money invested by American owners that took hold of almost half of the teams in Brazil. Looking at the lineups for both teams, European fans can identify multiple players that rejoined their native teams or came back to Brazil in search of glory and playing time. Hulk, Alex Telles, Paulinho, Thiago Almada and Lyanco are the main names here. This shows that the #Brasileiro really knows how to pull back players from all over the world back home. The South American football calendar is almost over, with a few games left in each league before calling it a season. And I can’t wait to see which teams will win their national championship. Looking forward for more interesting games like the one we experienced yesterday 😊 #internationalfootball #soccer #southamerica

BRAZIL FOOTBALL CUP Despite playing an away game and with a team layout that suggested a more direct style of play, Atlético Mineiro tried to play a ball control game against the very strong opponent Flamengo in Maracanã. By displaying lines stretched apart on the pitch, the black and white team performance was very poor in the first half. Also the fact that it did not have a central midfield player, they couldn't hold the ball and were outnumbered in the central of the field. The poor performance in the first half was a result of a strategy that didn't suit properly the game needs and a lack of proper defensive balance. It is unacceptable a top team which is playing The Libertadores Cup Final to have expressed such a lack of marking basic principles like displayed in Flamengo's first goal. So many mistakes in a single play that culminated on a domino effect which in turn provided Flamengo with such a easy path to its first goal. The second goal was also a result of fragile defensive position when Atlético's line of defenders were stretched and not balanced. Fortunately, the team played a better second half and a goal from Alan Kardec still kept the team with high aspirations to raise the trophy. But the performance must improve if this is to happen. #football #cbfacademy #cbf #brazilianfootball #conmebol #internationalfootball #fifa #asiafootball #viral https://lnkd.in/dVAR9_nu

⚽🏆Brazil-based players at the Copa America Brazil’s recent success in the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club tournament, did not happen by chance. With the economic advantage over its neighbors, Brazilian clubs are able to pay higher salaries and attract the continent's best players. A true illustration of Brazilian football's regional dominance is reflected in the number of players who represent Brazilian clubs and will be taking part in the 2024 Copa América — the major regional international tournament that kicked off on Thursday night in the U.S. No other country in South America has more representatives than Brazilian football leagues. Clubs from eight different states are sending players to different national teams, not just to the Brazil side. Clubs in São Paulo have 13 players called up by their respective national teams. It is also the state with the highest number of different clubs with at least one representative at the Copa America: besides big sides Palmeiras, Corinthians, São Paulo, and Santos, Ponte Preta and Red Bull Bragantino will also have members of their squads playing in the renowned continental competition. Check the map to see how other states stack up! And tell us your favorite Brazil-based national team player! #CopaAmerica #CopaAmerica2024 #Football #Libertadores #Messi #MLS #Brasileirao #Futebol

DERBY FROM MINAS GERAIS Last year Atlético played its archrival Cruzeiro for the first time on Atlético's new arena. An own goal by centerback Jemerson gave Cruzeiro a historical win on its debut on the new rival homeground. Not without a great game performed by Zé Ricardo's team. Felipão's Atlético was outnumbered in midfield most of the match when Jussa, Machado and Lucas Silva controled the pace of the game confortably. The home team played a poor game from the technical point of view what might happen from time to time. Surprisingly the team also allowed the opponent lots of freedom to perform its game plan. Within the first half one possible adjustment could have been the usage of Igor Gomes as an internal midfielder alongside Otávio and Alan Franco to level the numbers in midfield and to promote a more Black & White competitive performance. In other words to mirror players in midfield to shut the opponent's ball control game down. Igor has already played this internal position when he'd been a São Paulo player in the past. During break time other adjustments or even subs could have taken place, as they did. At the end of the day the own goal did not hide a poor performance by the home team what could have gone a different way if the opponents did not have so much space in midfield to control the game and created such a psychological edge within the first half. #football #footballinternational #Brazilianfootball #worldfootball #Europeanfootball #Americansoccer #Asiafootball https://lnkd.in/dSWsh5qk
