I am often asked about my professional trajectory, and when I am done, the inquirer/listener says something to the effect of, “You’ve done it all.” or “That is quite the journey.” It has been an awesome journey so far, and there is more to experience and learn. However, this journey has not been without “hiccups” . . . in all degrees of magnitude. I experienced a small one just two weeks ago, when I was engaging a VP of Medical Affairs who had a military background. Since I live in a region with a significant military population, I appreciated that aspect of their background.🫡 The beginning of our virtual engagement was thwarted by a webcam that would not reciprocate my image to them. This was unsettling to me as this was their first impression of MEDAMETHEUS, regardless of the cause (which remains a mystery, by the way). So, we ended up FaceTiming with our iPhones, which we were both fortunate to have. We had a great discussion and both of us were satisfied at the conclusion of our engagement, with more to come!🥳 In closing our discussion, I apologized for the IT glitch despite neither of us knowing the cause, and that is when they offered the following quote often used by their military peers and colleagues, “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.” We both agreed, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!”✅ I had heard that phrase before but spent time contemplating it after we ended our first engagement. You can apply this to your personal AND professional lives, regardless of your military veteran status. Whether it is first-time business pitches, traveling logistics, incompatible software or hardware platforms, IT glitches, job seeking, clinical trial enrollment, interpersonal conflicts, last-minute schedule changes, whatever . . . The essence of a truly successful individual or team/group/organization is how well they adapt to anticipated and/or unanticipated changes, especially the latter. A couple of more cliches to contemplate: “Change is the only constant.” & “Plans are worthless, but planning is everything.” If you are having a challenging time adapting, especially in the life science medical affairs arena, consider MEDAMETHEUS.
