Bioherbicides are compounds derived from microbes like bacteria, protozoa, and fungi, known for their safety, low toxicity, and minimal impact on farmers during handling. These organic alternatives are gaining traction due to their safety for consumption and environment-friendly properties, as they leave no harmful residues on crops. Increasing consumer demand for organic food, coupled with rising environmental concerns over chemical pesticides, has significantly fueled market growth. Ongoing innovation by manufacturers and continuous product launches have further expanded market opportunities. The decline in synthetic herbicide sales in recent years is attributed to their detrimental effects on beneficial soil flora and links to health risks such as cancer, birth defects, and respiratory issues. Governments worldwide have responded with stringent regulations and awareness campaigns promoting organic farming practices, thereby boosting global bioherbicide production. I am excited to share our publication on the evaluation of synthetic and organic pesticides, emphasizing their benefits, challenges, and potential for agricultural intensification directed towards crop productivity and food security. While synthetic pesticides have supported food production, its continues and unguided usage is not without adverse effect on the environment and human. Additionally, climate change has further encouraged pest resistance, threatening agricultural productivity. However, biopesticides offer a safer, eco-friendly alternative, but challenges like slow action, short shelf life, and limited availability slow their adoption. In this review, we call for greater promotion of biopesticides as part of sustainable pest management to enhance agricultural resilience and food security. #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #Biopesticides #Sustainability #ClimateChange https://lnkd.in/gxWpPMaQ
