Building, buying, or composing a CDP each comes with trade-offs that boil down to ownership, flexibility, and effort. A full in-house build gives you control and IP ownership but morphs your team into a software company. It’s a long haul requiring relentless development and ongoing maintenance to stay relevant. Buying offers a shortcut: a ready-to-use solution, with the trade-off being reliance on a third-party vendor and limited customization. It’s quick to deploy but might lock you into a framework that doesn’t flex with your needs. The composable route stands as a middle ground, offering the modularity of custom components without starting from scratch.  You can pick and choose what to build or buy, often focusing on areas like Data Collection, Ingestion, Aggregation, Orchestration, and Activation. These components form the backbone, giving you the flexibility to enhance specific capabilities without overhauling the entire system. Yet, it’s not a no-brainer—assembling and integrating independent modules can quickly snowball into complexity, demanding strong internal expertise and orchestration.
