A new uncrewed surface vessel (USV) has been secured to enable advanced deep-water profiling > > https://hubs.la/Q02-64PG0 Nordic USV will deploy the HydroSurv REAV-47 primarily for CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) profiling operations in Norway’s challenging fjords. Sander Henriksen, CEO of Nordic USV, said; “The REAV-47 represents a quantum leap in remotely operated vessel capability. “From our Bergen Operations Centre, the REAV-47 will conduct missions up to 1,000 kilometres away, gathering crucial environmental data even in adverse conditions. This unprecedented reach transforms how we monitor coastal ecosystems.” David Hull, Founder & CEO of HydroSurv, said; “We couldn’t be happier that Nordic USV have placed their trust in HydroSurv to provide USV capabilities for the next five years as they scale their innovative data collection services. Having completed over one hundred missions in the first year with the REAV-28 ‘USV Nordy’, I’m excited to see what Sander and his team will now achieve with ‘USV Bris’, and her sisters scheduled for delivery early in the next year.” HydroSurv Nordic USV #usv #unmanned #maritime #marine

Tow Trucks aren’t just for cars! Their job description goes way beyond rescuing everyday vehicles! Some of the surprising things tow trucks can handle are: Underwater Adventures: Special towing trucks can put vehicles out of lakes, rivers, and even oceans! Giants of the Road: Heavy-duty tow trucks can handle massive loads, from locomotives to construction equipment. Taking Flight: Towing even plays a role in space! Satellites can be maneuvered using a form of orbital towing. #towngo #towing #roadsideassistance

This month, during an expedition aboard Ocean Exploration Trust's Exploration Vessel Nautilus near American Samoa, researchers are testing a new, autonomous approach to locating seafloor fluid flow sites, like hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. Ultimately, this project has the potential to improve our knowledge about seafloor vents and seeps and the marine life they support. Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/e8FUvFwC [Image shows a schematic of autonomous plume tracing and source localization. A simplified autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) survey locates the depth of the nonbuoyant plume, maps its lateral extent, and autonomously implements a detailed deeper search that intercepts buoyant plume stems to locate vent sources. 🎉 Fun Friday Fact: Commercial Insurance and Space Exploration 🚀 Happy Friday, everyone! Here’s a stellar fact to launch you into the weekend: Did you know? Commercial insurance isn’t just for businesses on Earth. It also plays a crucial role in space exploration! 🌌 When companies like SpaceX or Blue Origin launch satellites or other payloads into space, they often secure commercial insurance to cover potential risks. This includes everything from launch failures to damage during transport. So, commercial insurance is helping us reach for the stars, quite literally! 🌠 Wishing you all an out-of-this-world weekend! 🌟 #FunFactFriday #CommercialInsurance #SpaceExploration #StayProtected #ReachForTheStars

Making Deep Sea Exploration Safer & More Efficient The following Vicor case study looks at how the company’s high-density power modules are being employed in game-changing remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). With a burgeoning ocean economy to address, these robotic units will have a vital role to play - enabling unmanned undersea missions to be embarked upon, while also protecting delicate habitats within the biosphere from harm. Less than 2 years ago, a pair of Saab ROVs descended over 3,000m into the frigid Antarctic waters in search of celebrated British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship the Endurance. The vessel sank back in 1915, after being crushed in the polar ice. The story of how the stranded crew managed to survive is accounted in Shackleton’s book ‘South’. Saab’s Seaeye ROVs were integral to the mission’s success, using sophisticated technology to locate, examine and film the wreckage - thus eliminating any need to endanger human lives. Historically, commercial divers have taken great risks when performing their underwater duties - such as inspecting oil/gas pipelines or high-voltage electrical cables, repairing offshore wind turbine installations and other forms of critical infrastructure, etc. Such an inhospitable environment inevitably presents potentially life-threatening hazards. Saab has changed that dynamic by concentrating its deep sea exploratory expertise on.. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released an updated version of a draft environmental assessment that would permit SpaceX to increase the tempo of Starship launches and landings at the company’s Starbase test site at Boca Chica, Texas. The agency is preparing to permit SpaceX to increase activity at Starbase to 25 launches and 25 landings annually. The current licence allows five launches and landings annually. SpaceX has conducted six Starship launches to date, including two in the last two months. However, it wants to significantly ramp up operations as it readies the Starship for crew and cargo trips to the Moon...
