As the satcom community gathers, the focus day of Global Milsatcom covered cyber, where the threats blending RF with the power of AI/ML on space and ground segments are growing and accessible to more actors. Combined with the recent loss of Intelsat 33e, a key GEO spacecraft covering Europe, and the announcement this week by Australia of the cancellation of the JP9102 GEO satellites it is a challenging time for the industry and our defence customers. All of this clearly shows how strategies need to embrace multi constellation, multi capacity provider approaches. In many ways they long have, as part of PACE planning (primary, alternate, contingent and emergency) - but that is traditionally more aligned to “fail over” and using different hardware and systems. Creating robust, flexible and at scale “Access, Collaborate, Own” frameworks blends technical, operational, political and commercial factors. However it is the irreducible minimum that takes the largest investment and in all of this there are compromises and risk balance arguments. Suspect a topic over the next few days in presentations, panels and huddles….

🌐 In today’s digital era, the accuracy and security of satellite navigation signals are crucial. OSNMA is Galileo's innovative answer to the call for robust satellite services. 🔐 OSNMA is not just a feature; it's a revolution in the global positioning landscape. It stands as a publicly available authentication service that ensures the integrity and trustworthiness of the navigation messages transmitted by Galileo's satellites. 🛰️ Why does this matter? With concerns like spoofing threats, where sophisticated methods are used to manipulate satellite navigation signals, OSNMA provides a much-needed layer of security. It safeguards against these threats, ensuring that the GNSS information is authentic and unaltered. 🚫📡 The benefits are clear: ✅ Enhanced trust in GNSS data. ✅ Assurance of data integrity. ✅ Protection against spoofing. Are you curious about how OSNMA can be integrated into your solution? Or perhaps you're eager to understand the nuts and bolts of this technology? We've got you covered! 👇 Check the webinar in the first comment below to get invaluable insights. #OSNMA #Galileo #GNSS #spoofing

Last week, Erwan P. Emilian moderated two sessions on the pivotal role of satcom connectivity for humanitarian and maritime operations at ★ Les Assises du NewSpace - Saison 3 ★ . #LEO is gaining momentum and revolutionising operations both at sea and ashore. The humanitarian session explored the transformative potential of mobility solutions, turning humanitarian vehicles into fully functional remote offices. Meanwhile, the maritime session highlighted the rapid digitalisation on board, made possible by the next generation's high-speed, low-latency networks. However, greater network availability at sea also brings increased cybersecurity risks. Thus, LEO adopters must take the necessary precautions to navigate these digital waters safely. IEC Telecom Group is a leading expert in developing and implementing managed #satcom solutions. Need a consultation? PACE (Primary, Alternative, Contingency, Emergency) methodology is needed to deliver effective communications during defense operations but it is also vital for governments for border security, search and rescue and emergency services. In the event of a failure of a Primary communications system, it is critical to have reliable and resilient back ups to ensure seamless communication for critical systems. It is therefore vital to create diverse communication links to account for unpredictable variables and have reliability within any contingency planning. If one level fails, then another must be in place to bring resiliency. The OuterNET™ brings a capability to PACE unlike any other COMSATCOM system. By using its unique gateway-less architecture it will allow users to operate adaptable virtual private networks in space without ever touching any third party networks. By using advanced routers the OuterNET™ also enables faster than broadband speeds, in excess of 100mbp. This means that SatCom via the OuterNET™ is not just a resilience back up option, but will now be a critical part of any communication planning. #OuterNET #PACE #resilience

Iridium to Expand its Reach as a Global Alternative PNT Service with Acquisition of Market Leader Satelles https://lnkd.in/erhuCNGv Iridium Communications Inc. announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire Satelles, who specialise in secure satellite-based time and location services that complement and protect GPS and other GNSS-reliant systems. The service, named Satellite Time and Location (STL), is an easy-to-adopt, highly secure solution that increases the efficiency and reliability of timing systems for digital infrastructure like 5G base stations, data centers, and other critical infrastructure and protects against GNSS vulnerabilities using low-cost hardware that doesn’t require outdoor antennas. This acquisition continues Iridium’s philosophy of investing in differentiating technologies uniquely suited to its network that significantly outperform competing solutions.

Digital transformation is shaking up the maritime industry. The e-Navigation strategy developed by IMO to revolutionize commercial shipping is evolving, requiring new technologies and new approaches. Various systems are being integrated and coordinated to improve communications and data exchange between ships, shore stations, and satellites. The core goals of e-Navigation also include increasing safety and efficiency of navigation, reducing the risk of human errors, as well as minimizing the administrative burden. Particularly high demands are placed on cyber security. To implement a number of services included in the IMO E-Navigation Strategy Implementation Plan, the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) has been developed. This radiocommunication system combines existing technologies used on ships and on land with new two-way satellite communications. So, VDES is a multi-component system that provides various means for exchanging digital data in the ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, ship-to-satellite and satellite-to-ship directions. It integrates the functions of VHF data exchange (VDE) comprising both terrestrial and satellite components, application specific messages (ASM) and the automatic identification system (AIS) operating in the VHF maritime mobile band (156-162 MHz). This system is also called AIS 2.0, as it is the second generation of the well-known AIS system. Let's find out in a new article on our blog what caused the need to expand this system and what opportunities it provides to shipping: https://lnkd.in/emJ-haVe #VDES #AIS20 #maritime
