Some marketing data tells us where we’ve been. But the best data tells us where to go next. When we started correlating engagement metrics with historical sales patterns, the picture changed. Instead of a stream of leads, marketing began forecasting where sales could make the biggest impact: which accounts were primed for renewal, which needed attention, and where the strongest opportunities were emerging. Suddenly, sales had more than a pipeline; they had a strategy. With these insights, marketing became more than support—it became a direct driver of growth. This shift is what turns data into direction, and alignment into action.

Data silos are an absolute killer when it comes to sales and marketing alignment. If your marketing data is in one tool, sales data in another, and customer data somewhere else - with no-one having a single view, of all activities, you’re practically asking for friction between your teams. If you’re sat there trying to figure out how to launch that ‘One Team: One Dream’ initiative that you’ve been banging on about for the last 36 months, get all your data in one place. Its the first step to bring your teams together into a unified growth machine. Sure, you’ll likely interpret the data with heavy bias towards your own remit to begin with (more on this in a later post), but at least you’ll all be singing from the same hymn sheet. Step 2 is adopting North Star metrics for the entire org, to facilitate a gradual mindset shift away from ‘who gets credit for opps/pipeline/revenue/deals?’ and towards ‘which channels, tactics, campaigns, content actually move the needle at each stage of the buying process?’ (See my previous post) Baby steps. Unify your data first. #sales #marketing #b2b
