A few days back, our hiring team shared a disturbing observation with me. As many would know, when it comes to fresher hiring, we focus a lot on hiring from Tier II and Tier III cities and educational institutions. These freshers go through a robust training and mentoring program before starting the work. They also get dedicated support from managers and leaders to do well in their roles. Of course, the hiring process is stringent. The graduates go through some tests and interviews. It disturbed me when my hiring team shared that most young graduates - Are weak in communication and are not making any efforts to improve their communication skills - Lack the knowledge of fundamentals of computer science and programming - Claim a lot of things in their resume but cannot prove their expertise It is possible that other tech companies hiring freshers also have similar observations. While this is worrying, it needs to be solved. Some efforts need to be taken by the educational institutions, and more importantly, the graduates themselves need to take control of their careers. They must focus on building the skills and expertise that will help them stand apart and showcase their value. #FresherHiring #Hiring #TechHiring
