A wise person once said. "You can't un-know what you already know." There were a lot of takeaways at the Cop29 Press Conference with Brenda Mallory, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, today. But here's what rings louder than the rest: The government knows. The public knows. Communities know. Consumers know. Climate change is no longer a hoax. It's here. Communities, the public, and consumers understand that we are ALL impacted- some more than others. And, we ALL need environmental benefits- Reduced emissions, improved air quality, improved public health, and funds to help mitigate the impact of climate change. #cop29 #climatechange

📹 It's live! The consultation on our new Transition to Net Zero Strategy which will replace our previous climate change strategy. As you might remember, Welwyn Hatfield declared a climate emergency in 2019 and set targets to transition to Net Zero as an organisation by 2030 and as a borough by 2050. Last year, we updated our corporate priorities to align with our climate goals, making Action on Climate a key priority. Our objectives include: 🌏 Renewing our commitments to be a net zero council by 2030 (and as a borough by 2050) 🌏 Stepping up climate change adaptation and mitigation measures 🌏 Leading by example and encouraging others to make positive change 🌏 Increasing and promoting biodiversity We highly value feedback from our community, as achieving our net zero targets and wider climate and biodiversity aspirations will require everyone’s involvement. https://lnkd.in/eE73EFqB

Launched in 2019 to convene fast, science-based action in the UK’s environmental sector, more than 160 organisations are signed up to the Pledge to Net Zero (PTNZ) initiative. PTNZ requires signatories to set a science-based target in line with a 1.5°C climate change scenario, publicly report on their progress towards achieving their target, and publish a piece of thought-leadership/ provide mentoring services. This webinar will present examples of good practice from participants in the initiative, providing insights into how they have reduced their emissions, overcoming challenges along the way. Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in a groundbreaking World Youth-Led Webinar organized by Climate Solution International, focusing on the critical intersection of biodiversity and climate action. This eye-opening event was a testament to the power of collaboration and youth-driven solutions. We were joined by an outstanding lineup of speakers - ANCHAL GAUTAM, Tahanyat Satti, Upendra Bhusal, and Taimur Ashfaq. who generously shared their insights on the outcomes of COP16, COP29, and COP28. Their firsthand experiences and valuable knowledge on these pivotal events provided a comprehensive understanding of the negotiations and decisions that have shaped our current climate landscape. Moreover, the speakers shed light on the significance of the upcoming COP30 in Belem, Brazil, and offered essential tips to prepare for this crucial gathering. It's clear that we must continue raising awareness and mobilizing action to ensure our voices are heard at these pivotal events. A special thanks to Srajati Tiwari for expertly moderating this captivating webinar and fostering a space for rich dialogue. One key takeaway from this event was the undeniable truth that sustainability must be at the heart of climate action. As youth leaders, it's our responsibility to advocate for policies and practices that protect our planet's biodiversity while addressing the urgency of the climate crisis. Let's continue to empower one another, share knowledge, and drive meaningful change. Our future depends on our collective action today.

Valued at $3 trillion annually, the blue economy is a cornerstone of the global economy, supporting over 3 billion people, according to the United Nations Global Compact. However, it is increasingly threatened by climate challenges. Blue bonds provide a crucial solution by channeling investments into marine conservation. These bonds support ocean and coastal protection, helping businesses and governments advance the SDGs while preserving these vital ecosystems. At the close of COP 16, Friends of the Earth International raised critical insights and demands for addressing the climate crisis: 1. Stronger Climate Action: We need firm commitments from all nations to achieve meaningful, science-backed emissions reductions. 2. Environmental Justice: Climate policies must prioritize the rights of communities impacted the most, especially in the Global South. 3. Accountability for Big Polluters: It’s essential to hold major polluters accountable and demand transparency in emissions reporting. Together, we can push for a fairer, more sustainable future. It’s time to act decisively. #COP16 #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalJustice #Sustainability #FoEI #FoEGhana

NDCs: A Roadmap to a Greener Future Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) serve as each country’s unique blueprint to meet climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. They outline short- to medium-term goals focused on reducing emissions, adapting to climate change impacts, and bolstering financial support. This unified approach aims to keep global warming below 1.5°C, a target critical for the future of our planet. Through NDCs, countries can adapt their policies across sectors, aligning each with overarching climate goals. This flexibility empowers governments to tailor their strategies, prioritizing actions that suit their economic landscape, energy needs, and societal goals. With NDCs, climate objectives are not imposed; they’re cultivated through homegrown solutions that resonate with each nation’s strengths and challenges. In 2022, over 130 countries ramped up their climate ambitions through updated NDCs. For instance, by committing to decarbonize the power sector by 2030, many nations aim to slash emissions by 20% in the next decade. And it's not just about carbon; other pledges focus on water security, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity preservation. What’s inspiring is that the NDCs also drive collaboration and innovation. Several countries have integrated green hydrogen and carbon capture into their plans, setting bold targets to cut industrial emissions by up to 45% by 2040. By doing so, they’re signaling that the path to Net Zero is not just a pledge but a real, attainable goal. This opportunity to increase climate ambition through NDCs gives countries the leverage to address environmental issues while fostering economic growth. NDCs are essentially a roadmap where climate priorities meet national interests. Together, these plans show that when ambition meets policy, a sustainable, low-carbon future becomes a shared reality. #NetZeroGreenBharat #CarbonHydrogenX #ClimateAction #ParisAgreement #EmissionReduction #GreenInnovation #SustainableDevelopment #FutureReady #DecarbonizeNow #GlobalGoals #1Point5C
