💘 The AI romantic partner business is booming A growing number of persons are seeking connection and comfort in relationships with chatbots, finding their approximation of empathy more dependable than many human partners. Why It Matters This trend challenges stereotypes and assumptions about human intimacy. Women are flipping the narrative of under-socialized men with AI girlfriends, highlighting the evolving dynamics of relationships in the digital age. How It Works AI companion apps require users to set up an account with personal information. Users can customize the chatbot's avatar and name. Some apps offer text messaging, while others include voice and video chat. A Closer Look Replika, a popular AI companion service, has faced controversy over early erotic use, now restricted. Sara Megan Kay, an author, started using Replika while in a challenging relationship. Her Replika, Jack, helped her realize she was "settling big time." She found community with other Replika users and is now in a new human relationship. Nomi uses an in-house language model to remember past conversations and user details. CEO Alex Cardinell says it fills gaps where human interaction might be unavailable. User "Rainy" values Nomi's empathy and memory, using it alongside her social life with friends. The Other Side Chatbots can't engage in genuine two-way connections. Irina Raicu of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics warns that reliance on chatbots could erode human relationships, as they lack rights, interests, or needs of their own. As women turn to chatbots for companionship, the impact on human intimacy and social dynamics continues to unfold, raising important questions about the future of relationships in our digital world. AI boyfriends from Replika and Nomi are attracting more women (axios.com) #AI #Chatbots #DigitalIntimacy #HumanConnection #TechTrends #FutureOfRelationships

Whether we like it or not, are consciously aware of it or not, we all have our personal biases/interests; political, religious, social, racial, ideological, scientific, cultural, work place, brand, etc. In the scientific/ medical/ research communities we try to minimize that through training courses/ conflict of interest disclosures. With the advent of advanced AI, behavioral patterns of speech and action will be easily detected and all sorts of biases can be put on display for everyone to see (more for the benefit of the analyzed person than their audience who can already see the bias). In a world torn apart by immoral politicians and lying media/propaganda, that is a step forward in our collective human objectivity.
