Young leaders worldwide are at the forefront, advocating for green urban planning, sustainable transport, and inclusive policies that prioritize climate resilience. The commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hinges on city-level action and innovation, and today’s youth are crucial to bringing about this transformation. Excited to share that I've been selected for Climatebase Cohort 7 starting in March! I'm thrilled for the opportunity to work towards creating a world that is more socially just and sustainable. It's concerning that so many in our generation in the US faces the possibility of being less prosperous than the previous generation, with a worrying trend of passing on even greater environmental and economical challenges to the next generation. We’ve entered Climate Week NYC! Even though we’re in Australia, we wanted to give thanks to Climate Group for creating CW NYC as it fosters global dialogue and leadership on climate change. These types of events help build global awareness on climate importance – which influences Australia’s sustainable finance efforts. While we won’t be travelling to New York (we wish) - throughout the week, starting today, we’ll be sharing resources based on the key themes that CW NYC will focus on in their sessions. It's World Cities Day and this year's theme couldn't be more relevant - "Youth leading climate and local action for cities." As a young professional passionate about sustainability and making a difference in our communities, I couldn't be more excited to see the focus on empowering youth to take action. Youth have always been at the forefront of driving change, and when it comes to tackling the climate crisis and creating more sustainable cities, their voices and actions are more important than ever. We have the creativity, passion, and determination to make a real impact on the world around us, and it's time we step up and lead the way. From organizing community clean-ups to advocating for green policies, there are so many ways youth can get involved and make a difference in their cities. And with the power of social media and technology at our fingertips, we have the tools to amplify our voices and connect with like-minded individuals around the world. As youths, we must be involved in urban decision-making to harness our creativity and drive sustainable development. 2. As a youth, explore ways to transform your innovative ideas into concrete actions. 3. Lend your voice in shapening sustainable environments. 4. Ensure an ongoing dialogue with policymakers. 5. At the Urban Forestation Revolution Consultative Workshop, I had the chance to reflect on the role of local knowledge in tackling climate change and restoring nature. One critical point I emphasized: indigenous and local knowledge must be the foundation of our sustainability strategies. Without considering the cultural, social, and environmental realities of local communities, our climate interventions will not succeed. For example, in my work with Learning Garden, I have seen how community-led initiatives that integrate local expertise such as designing customized nature-based solutions and reviving traditional practices can have a profound impact.
