Raw material procurement is becoming a hot topic in the brewing world. We asked Horst Dornbusch, renowned consultant in the international brewing industry and host for raw materials at the BrauBeviale forum: What do you think are the biggest factors to consider these days?
“Brewing raw materials, just like the production of all other agricultural products, depend of course on our planet‘s climate and weather systems”, says Dornbusch. “These, unfortunately, are now changing faster than ever before because of humanity‘s increasing fossil energy consumption. While heat and cold waves, droughts, deluges, and storms have always been with us, their new intensity and frequency make the cultivation of hops and barley increasingly risky and unpredictable.”
👉 The raw materials forum at BrauBeviale will focus on trends in malting barley breeding, the patenting of plant varieties, wooden barrel production, new hop varieties and much more.
