This is the final year to get compliant with Brianna's Law! Starting January 1, 2025, all operators of mechanically propelled vessels will need a Safe Boating Certificate, regardless of age. Despite some pushback from long-time boaters, the stats don't lie - a majority of boating accidents involve operators over 60 years old with the most hours of experience. While incidents and fatalities decreased last year, there's still progress to be made. Remember, a safe day on the water is a fun day on the water. Ensure you're prepared – take a safe boating course, wear a lifejacket, and boat sober. I don't want to read your accident report. #BoatingSafety #SafeBoatingCourse #NYSParks https://lnkd.in/ei6kdy55

It’s Boating Safety Week! I was really excited when the MIAPBC (the producers of the Palm Beach International Boat Show and Palm Beach Boat Parade) asked me to join them in talking about boating safety because it is a topic near and dear to my heart. Let’s make sure our time on the water this summer is fun AND safe! Here are some essential tips to keep in mind: Most Important - Don’t Drink and Drive the Boat! Just like driving, operating a boat under the influence is dangerous. Stay sober to ensure everyone’s safety. And remember - even if you’re not the captain, if something happens - it is easier to swim to safety if you’re not tipsy or drunk while doing it! Also, know where your life jackets are and make sure there are always enough for everyone on board. Always look for flags, swimmers, divers and other boats and ensure your boat is equipped with necessary safety gear – fire extinguishers, flares, first aid kits, and a working radio. Let’s have some fun this summer and make sure every voyage a safe one! 🌞🚤 #BoatingSafetyWeek #SafeBoating #LifeJackets #StaySober #SafetyFirst

Enjoying a day on the water can be a fantastic experience, but safety should always be a priority. To ensure a safe boating adventure, follow these essential tips: ➡️ Always wear a life jacket while boating. Ensure that all passengers, especially children, have properly fitted life jackets. ➡️ Before heading out, check the weather forecast. Avoid boating during severe weather or when strong winds are predicted. ➡️ Regularly inspect and maintain your boat to ensure it’s in good working condition. Address any issues before setting sail. ➡️ Adhere to all navigation rules and regulations. Understand the boating traffic patterns and respect other vessels. ➡️ Avoid alcohol while operating a boat. Boating under the influence can impair judgment and reaction times, increasing the risk of accidents. ➡️ Carry a marine radio or a cell phone and ensure someone on land knows your boating plan and expected return time. By following these safety tips, you can reduce the risk of boating accidents and ensure a safer experience on the water. "Got any plans today?" What do you say when someone asks you that? The standard reply is "nothing much". The Boat Club Trafalgar member reply is... "Taking some friends/colleagues/Romans/Countrymen out for a blast across to Discovery Bay and probably going to do a bit of fishing or waterskiing. Not sure yet." Later that day you may be asked, "How are you?" And the standard reply is, "mustn't grumble, all things considering." The Boat Club Trafalgar Member reply is... "Absolutely buzzing. Can't believe there are such beautiful beaches and dolphins right on our doorstep. Have you ever been out on a RIB across to Cowes? It's fabulous. You must try it sometime.
