At the Athmanathar Shiva Temple in Tamil Nadu, an astonishing sculpture of a snake captures the attention of all who visit. This is not a real snake, but a masterpiece of ancient craftsmanship that appears life-like with incredible detail in its face, eyes and body. This sculpture is a testament to the advanced sculpting techniques used by artisans of ancient India, reflecting their exceptional skill and deep knowledge of stonework. The snake’s realistic appearance is achieved through intricate carving techniques that bring out fine details like the scales and the curvature of its form, making it seem as if it might slither away at any moment. This temple was built by Saint Manickavasagar, the prime minister of Arimardhana Pandian. Iron screws are used in the construction of mandaps. Material Mastery: Ancient Indian sculptors worked with stone as if it were clay, chiseling and shaping it into intricate forms with remarkable precision. Symbolism: Snakes hold significant spiritual symbolism in Hinduism, often representing protection, rebirth, and the cycle of life. This sculpture likely served a symbolic purpose within the temple’s sacred architecture. Architectural Genius: The placement of the sculpture within the temple’s structure shows a thoughtful integration of art into architecture, enhancing the temple’s spiritual ambiance. The technology and methods used in ancient times remain a marvel, often attributed to a combination of tools, detailed understanding of geometry, and a spiritual dedication that translated into their art. Such sculptures continue to inspire awe, reminding us of the rich cultural heritage and the unparalleled skills of our ancestors. #bharat #sanatandharma #heritage #artwork #carvingart #stoneart #architecture #snakeartwork

Sometimes sculpture is used to generate mystical spaces in religious environments. Spatial emotion becomes a bridge between the touchable and the untouchable; between the physical and the intuitive...like life and death.... Sometimes deep relationships suffer from a certain subtle, intuitive...mystical aspect. They are those emotions and perceptions that make us know and feel...everything...with a glance. Sometimes the deepest of our fears play with calm and serenity...they are vital, simple, eternal moments...we call it ...Love. Title of the sculpture: Sailboat Moon Wind. Dimensions: 195 cm high x 135cm long x 100 cm wide. Materials: Carbon steel Location: Chichester Cathedral. In the world of art, many creations amaze with originality and uniqueness. A striking example is a gold sculpture depicting the famous British model Kate Moss. But what made the statue so unusual and remarkable? Firstly, the material from which it is made. It is no secret that gold has had a special place in art since antiquity. From ancient Greek vases, it gradually made its way to Andy Warhol’s silkscreens, Jasper Johns’ flag canvas, and Marc Quinn’s giant sculptures. Secondly, the sculptural image of Kate Moss holds a special meaning. The model has become a symbol of women’s influence in modern society. The third important aspect that makes the sculpture unique is its creator. Marc Quinn, known for his bold works, once again demonstrates his talent and non-standard approach to art. And how many kilograms of the precious metal he needed to create the “golden Kate Moss”? The aforementioned 50kg Kate Moss sculpture that cost more than $2 million to make. https://lnkd.in/e4FwpRgp
