CoBuilders is a partnership-enabled initiative that would not be possible without the support and efforts of our eight partners spread across the state of Mississippi. These esteemed partners include the Oxford/Lafayette Economic Development Foundation, Higher Purpose Co., Mississippi State University E-Center, The Community Development Foundation, JSU/The Bean Path, MSU E-Center Vicksburg, Mississippi Polymer Institute, and The Meeting Place. Together, our partners host a regional pitch event where a minimum of $7,500 in cash prizes is awarded. Entrepreneurs selected to pitch at these events are automatically considered for inclusion in the main cohort. This main cohort consists of up to 10 companies, each receiving a minimum of $25,000 in the form of a SAFE investment. Last week was week 1 of The Financial Literacy Institute, Inc.’s GAP Program where we teach black business owners how to build sustainable businesses in today’s economy. Before Attorney Ashante arosier Robinson began the class lecture on organizational structure and intellectual propoetty, it was important for us to explain why our annual Black Wall Street Black Business Expo is not just another expo as well as the role entreneurship plays in building generational wealth! After that, Attorney Rosier Robinson laid the foundation for business formation. She covered the different entity types, how their formed, and the different protections that each entity type provided the owner; trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets! We’re almost 45 days out from the 3rd Annual Black Wall Street Black Business Expo ATL, where the GAP students will receive their certificates of completion of the program! And this year, WE OUTSIDE!!! That’s right, this year’s expo will be outside, block party style! This year will be the best year yet! This action-packed event will feature: • not one, but EIGHT panels • various performances from up and coming artists as well as some you already know. • the Fulton County Elections bus because we’re in an election year, and • Most importantly, we will be welcoming our special guest, Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre that demolished Black Wall Street! This kid reminds me so much of myself growing up. At nine years old, I started my first business—the neighborhood Candy House in Compton, California. By the time I was 10, I turned a $40 investment into $300 a week and even put the local liquor store out of the candy game. That experience shaped me for life, and I see that same entrepreneurial spark in this young man.
